This book contains poems devoted to the task of turning matter into spirit (Louise Nevelson). They explore the many avenues in which such alchemy takes place. Through art, sculpture, photography, science, nature and other modes, magical transformation can occur, and poetry itself becomes the alchemical vessel revealing these many approaches by which the mundane rises to the level of the transcendent. Her earlier books were clearly marked as inspired by Rumi and other writers from the ancient spiritual tradition, both in subject and style. These poems, though not so obviously spiritual in nature, reach out to include the many contemporary realms in which the sacred and secular fuse, divine and human merge, and the whole becomes one dazzling vision of that we call reality. Praise for Dorothy s writing: Dorothy s words are like radiant sparks emerging from the darkness, birthed by the womb of the universe Herself, and always pointing back to their Source. (Lawrence Edwards, Ph. D., author, The Soul s Journey and Awakening Kundalini. )

My Great High Roofed House written by Penelope Boyer and has been published by Atropos Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-05-01 with Philosophy categories.

My Great High-Roofed House traces, through Homer's Penelope of The Odyssey, erasures of the mighty matriarchal pre-Mycenaean ages of ancient Greece by the rise of the patriarchal polis. It takes a "Penelopean" form, stitched from found text, woven of often long swaths of thought, pieced together, pulled apart, spun, frayed and fingered. Homer's Penelope is the relic of an ancient bird goddess-a duck, in fact. First cousin to Helen of Troy and Clytemnestra, Penelope is a daughter of Sparta in marital exile on the island of Ithaca as a young bride to Odysseus. Her warrior husband leaves for twenty years; she spends that time among women, weaving and waiting. Their world, in her great, high-roofed house, is stuff of speculation. It is a female orb, almost as other as Calypso's or Circe's, with 108 suitors in the megaron below demanding Penelope's hand. This situates The Odyssey as a harbinger of Menippean satire, and Penelope's gynaeceum a forerunner of Sappho's thiasos and other homosocial-conceivably homosexual-- settings, female, and fantastic or non-fiction. Penelope's story is treated as a tale of early technology. The loom-room-sized, looming larger than any island animal or man-made contraption of archaic times-was of women's design, engineering and artistry. Often ignored by "history of technology" texts, weaving's absence is due to it's ubiquity; its machinery and products decay leaving no archeological evidence, except perhaps a mis-identifiable loom-weight of stone or bone. Penelope's prognosis as bipolar is suggested by her infamous weaving and unweaving "trick," her mechanism for staving off suitors. Hers are the West's oldest recorded dream interpretations; their analyses are re-considered here. Paradigm, periphrasis, periphron, phenomenology, poesis, poludeukes and praxis unravel until all that remains is a single mom, a cyborg with her device and a son named Telemachus or "distant machine." She winks, smiling as if to say, "Wait, just let me finish textiling."

Originally published in 1979, this volume acts as a reference for the history textiles. It asks questions on the effect of technology on textiles, how did particular historical periods and locations expand or limit the possibilities for the manufacture of fabrics and how the textile history related to politics and economics, sociology and psychology, art and engineering, anthropology and archaeology, chemistry and physics. Addressing these questions, the author surveys the development of the technical components of fabrics and discusses the textiles of selected places and times. She uses prose, drawings and more than 130 photographs to show how each era of textile production reflects its age. This book is designed to serve as a college text and as a reference work for museum researchers. With sections including illustrations and diagrams; key terminology; spinning wool; spinning and raw materials; single ply and cord and fabric construction.

Enjoy this kind and gentle historical fantasy romance exploring the magical community of Great Britain after the Great War. Rathna has a gift for doorways. When a portal in the Scottish Highlands stops working, she is one of the only Portal Keepers able to travel to investigate. On the other hand, the location presents some challenges. As a London-born Bengali woman, she's nothing like the villagers. And of course, there's the worrying question: why did this portal stop working? It shouldn't have done that. Gabe was born to fling himself at a challenge. Gabe was born into an aristocratic family, and he's used to everything coming easily. Everything, that is, but recovery from a life-changing injury in 1918. Fortunately, he's recently finished training as one of Albion's investigators, and he can throw himself entirely into his work. He has a new landscape to explore, wildlife to see, ponies to ride, and magic to untangle. There's plenty to keep his quicksilver mind busy. Perhaps there are too many problems. Rathna is prickly, giving him little to work with. There are threatening noises from the mountaintop nearby. Rathna is even more distant when she gets news from home of a mysterious man asking about her.
