La première partie de ce livre donne l’occasion de comprendre différents aspects de la pratique de la philosophie avec les enfants. Ce livre présente, dans un premier temps, quelques-unes des applications de la communauté de recherche philosophique (CRP) dans des contextes différents de celui qu'avait imaginé M. Lipman, créateur du programme Philosophique pour les enfants, à la fin des années 1960. Ces applications sont l'oeuvre de 24 créateurs soucieux d'utiliser la CRP de manière novatrice en étant guidés par les particularités contextuelles avec lesquelles ils devaient composer. Il y est notamment question de l'utilisation de la CRP en milieu carcéral, dans la formation à distance, dans la formation des maîtres, en alphabétisation populaire, en maison de retraite, dans l'enseignement religieux et l'éducation éthique... Dans un deuxième temps, quelques enjeux de la CRP sont examinés : son éventuelle utilisation dans le programme d'éthique et culture religieuse au Québec, les rapports entre le CRP et l'éveil à la dignité humaine, la promotion de la santé, l'éducation du citoyen, la CRP et le développement de la pensée critique des adolescents, l'apprentissage du jugement et la dimension esthétique de la CRP. Chaque chapitre pose une série de questions touchant les fondements de la CRP. Ce livre devrait amener le lecteur à entrevoir l'énorme potentiel de la CRP, à l'intérieur d'une grande variété de contextes. De plus, le caractère émergent de ces applications pave la voie à un large éventail de projets de recherche impliquant non seulement des philosophes, mais aussi des psychologues, des pédagogues, des sociologues, des intervenants en milieu communautaire, des linguistes, des artistes, des littéraires, des scientifiques... Autant de perspectives nouvelles qui, au demeurant, s'inscrivent tout à fait dans les axes de la CRP : rencontre de la diversité, questionnement, recherche, collaboration...
