Notre étude est un essai d’analyse éthique des rencontres interculturelles à partir des « textes africains » de Marc Sangnier (1873-1950) et d’Emmanuel Mounier (1905-1950). Deux penseurs chrétiens et grands témoins de l’histoire du 20e siècle : histoire des faits sociaux, politiques, économiques, littéraires, philosophiques et théologiques, avec leur corollaire au plan international. Nous nous intéressons particulièrement aux regards que ces deux auteurs portaient, à leur époque, sur l’Afrique : leurs questions viennent comme pour éclairer, en les interpellant, les relations Europe-Afrique. Comment cette histoire des rencontres, logée dans les archives, peut-elle nous aider à évaluer constamment celle qui est entre nos mains et que nous pouvons diriger dans l’un ou l’autre sens ? Comment les regards de ces fondateurs « révolutionnaires » peuvent-ils aider le théologien africain à penser de façon pertinente l’évangélisation des peuples au sein de « l’Eglise-famille-de-Dieu » ? Plus précisément, la voie du personnalisme communautaire, ne serait-elle pas une pédagogie pratique pour cette Afrique où le conformisme ethnique – au lieu de conjuguer les différences et d’ouvrir au dialogue – bloque les sujets en conflits ? Penser l’Afrique et son avenir avec Marc Sangnier et Emmanuel Mounier nous révèle ce que l’autre nous apporte en humanité quand il ose la rencontre et qu’il propose une « parole ». Leur statut d’intellectuels chrétiens et leur « connaissance » de l’Afrique permettent au lecteur africain de les considérer comme crédibles : à ce titre, ils sont porteurs d’un message. L’accueillir avec « générosité » serait pour l’Afrique et pour notre monde d’aujourd’hui une chance véritable.
