Es brillante el propósito de este trabajo, que reviste la importancia de dar a conocer las normas, la jurisprudencia, los aspectos básicos teóricos y prácticos sobre la pensión de sobrevivientes, enmarcada dentro del sistema general de pensiones. Actualmente su regulación se encuentra dispersa y sometida al control y a la interpretación sui generis de los funcionamientos de gran cantidad de entidades de previsión. No es exagerado afirmar que el autor elabora una recopilación de la normativa y de la jurisprudencia, hoy muy dispersa y aplicable de manera inequitativa según se trate de un servidor público o del trabajador privado o de otro amparado por un régimen especial (Magisterio, Congreso, Fuerzas Armadas, Ecopetrol, etc.) que conforman privilegios, que en muchos casos dependen de intereses personales, sindicales o de partidos políticos. El libro efectúa una clasificación y un análisis temático que permite consultar y entender cómo la seguridad social ha sido producto de una evolución histórica, que solo hasta poco menos de dos décadas se ha enmarcado dentro del Estado Social de Derecho, hasta convertirse no solo en un servicio público (obligatorio y en algunos casos esencial), sino en un derecho prestacional económico y social reconocido e incorporado dentro de nuestra Constitución Política.
