Optical information processing of the future is associated with a new generation of compact nanoscale optical devices operating entirely with light. Moreover, adaptive features such as self-guiding, reconfiguration and switching become more and more important. Nonlinear devices offer an enormous potential for these applications. Consequently, innovative concepts for all-optical communication and information technologies based on nonlinear effects in photonic-crystal physics and nanoscale devices as metamaterials are of high interest. This book focuses on nonlinear optical phenomena in periodic media, such as photonic crystals, optically-induced, adaptive lattices, atomic lattices or metamaterials. The main purpose is to describe and overview new physical phenomena that result from the interplay between nonlinearities and structural periodicities and is a guide to actual and future developments for the expert reader in optical information processing, as well as in the physics of cold atoms in optical lattices.

Beam Wave Interaction In Periodic And Quasi Periodic Structures written by Levi Schächter and has been published by Springer Science & Business Media this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-06-27 with Science categories.

The main theme of this book is the interaction of electrons with electromagnetic waves in the presence of periodic and quasi-periodic structures in vacuum, in view of applications in the design and operation of particle accelerators. The first part of the book is concerned with the textbook-like presentation of the basic material, in particular reviewing elementary electromagnetic phenomena and electron dynamics. The second part of the book describes the current models for beam-wave interactions with periodic and quasi-periodic structures. This is the basis for introducing, in the last part of the book, a number of particle and radiation sources that rest on these principles, in particular the free-electron laser, wake-field acceleration schemes and a number of other advanced particle accelerator concepts. This second edition brings this fundamental text up-to-date in view of the enormous advances that have been made over the last decade since the first edition was published. All chapters, as well as the bibliography, have been significantly revised and extended, and the number of end-of-chapter exercises has been further increased to enhance this book’s usefulness for teaching specialized graduate courses.

This book introduces an analytical method, the U-transformation method, for the exact analysis of structures with the periodic property. The physical meaning of U-transformation is fully explained and the application of this technique to derive exact analytical solutions for a wide variety of structures with the periodic property is thoroughly illustrated. The book also provides useful exact and explicit formulas for many practical engineering problems. Many of these solutions are new results that have just appeared in international journals. The practical engineering structures considered in the book include continuous beams, stiffened plates, trusses, grillages, double layer grids and so on.

Frequency Domain Hybrid Finite Element Methods In Electromagnetics written by John. L Volakis and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-06-01 with Technology & Engineering categories.

This book provides a brief overview of the popular Finite Element Method (FEM) and its hybrid versions for electromagnetics with applications to radar scattering, antennas and arrays, guided structures, microwave components, frequency selective surfaces, periodic media, and RF materials characterizations and related topics. It starts by presenting concepts based on Hilbert and Sobolev spaces as well as Curl and Divergence spaces for generating matrices, useful in all engineering simulation methods. It then proceeds to present applications of the finite element and finite element-boundary integral methods for scattering and radiation. Applications to periodic media, metamaterials and bandgap structures are also included. The hybrid volume integral equation method for high contrast dielectrics and is presented for the first time. Another unique feature of the book is the inclusion of design optimization techniques and their integration within commercial numerical analysis packages for shape and material design. To aid the reader with the method's utility, an entire chapter is devoted to two-dimensional problems. The book can be considered as an update on the latest developments since the publication of our earlier book (Finite Element Method for Electromagnetics, IEEE Press, 1998). The latter is certainly complementary companion to this one.

Stability Of Gyroscopic Systems written by Ard‚shir Guran and has been published by World Scientific this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1999 with Science categories.

The motion of mechanical systems undergoing rotation about a fixed axis has been the subject of extensive studies over a few centuries. These systems are generally subject to gyroscopic forces which are associated with coriolis accelerations or mass transport and render complex dynamics. The unifying theme among topics presented in this book is the gyroscopic nature of the system equations of motion. The book represents comprehensive and detailed reviews of the state of art in four diverse application areas: flow-induced oscillations in structures, oscillations in rotating systems or rotor dynamics, dynamics of axially moving material systems, and dynamics of gyroelastic systems. The book also includes a chapter on dynamics of repetitive structures. These systems feature spatial periodicity and are generally subject to considerable gyroscopic forces. ?Gyroelastic systems? and ?repetitive structures? are the topics with very recent origins and are still in their infancies compared to the other examples represented in this book. Thus, the contributions on gyroelastic systems and repetitive structures are limited to only modeling, localization and linear stability analysis results. This book covers many important aspects of recent developments in various types of gyroscopic systems. Thus, at last, a comprehensive book is made available to serve as a supplement and resource for any graduate level course on elastic gyroscopic systems, as well as for a course covering the stability of mechanical systems. Moreover, the inclusion of an up-to-date bibliography attached to each chapter will make this book an invaluable text for professional reference.
