Terpilihnya Megawati Soekarnoputri sebagai Ketua Umum PDI tahun 1993 mengejutkan pemerintahan Presiden Soeharto. Bayangan-bayang Soekarno seakan muncul Iagi melalui Megawati Soekarnoputri yang kemudian menjadi simbol oposisi. Pemerintah melawan dengan mendukung kongres PDI tandingan pada tahun 1996 yang menjadikan Soerjadi sebagai Ketua Umum PDI. Megawati dan pengikutnya menduduki kantor DPP PDI di Jakarta Pusat. Mimbar bebas mengecam pemerintah digelar beruntun. Pemerintah gerah dan memutuskan mengambil alih kantor DPP PDI dengan cara kekerasan. Tanggal 27 Juli 1996, tentara dan preman bayaran melancarkan serangan frontal yang memicu kerusuhan di Jakarta. Pemerintah mencari kambing hitam dan menetapkan PRD sebagai dalang kerusuhan. Rakyat kalangan bawah melawan. Terjadi mobilitas militan dalam skala besar di seluruh negeri. Orde Baru mengalami krisis politik. Krisis ekonomi di akhir 1997 memperparah kepercayaan masyarakat terhadap pemerintah. Rakyat semakin berani melawan. Hingga akhirnya Soeharto harus lengser dari kursi kepresidenan pada 21 Mei 1998. Buku ini membuka kembali detail-detail sejarah pada Sabtu Kelabu, 27 Juli 1996. Dimulai dari peristiwa-peristiwa yang melatarbelakangi hingga penyelesaiannya di masa pemerintahan Presiden BJ. Habibie, Abdurrachman Wahid, hingga Megawati Soekarnoputri yang pada akhirnya menimbulkan pro dan kontra.

Di tengah pergaulan dengan konco-konco lawasnya yang kini sibuk dengan pekerjaan dan rumah tangga masing-masing, Juwita tetap eksis dalam dunia pergerakan. Bersama Robertus, eks aktivis mahasiswa Undip yang kini menjadi jurnalis, Juwita melibatkan diri dalam konflik pencemaran limbah industri di aliran Kali Banger, Pekalongan. Selain itu, Juwita ikut Robertus dan Hery Gendut ke Jakarta ketika terjadi konflik politik dan perebutan Kantor PDI di Jl. Diponegoro, antara kubu Soerjadi dengan kubu Megawati, sehingga terjadi Kerusuhan Dua Puluh Tujuh Juli 1996, atau yang kemudian terkenal dengan nama Kudatuli. Kembali ke Pekalongan, menjelang Pemilu 1997 Juwita dan Robertus terjebak pada beberapa kerusuhan di Buaran -kawasan perbatasan Kotamadya Pekalongan dengan Kabupaten Pekalongan. Konflik terjadi karena terlihat adanya arogansi dan pemaksaan kehendak dari penguasa untuk melakukan Golkarisasi di basis PPP. Bersamaan dengan itu pula, persoalan pencemaran limbah Kali Banger mencuat lagi. Kembali Juwita masuk dalam pusaran konflik. Sementara itu memasuki tahun 1998 Juwita bersama dua kawannya, aktivis Pejuang Kemerdekaan Timor Leste untuk ikut aksi mahasiswa Yogyakarta, menentang pencalonan Soeharto sebagai Presiden RI lagi. Aksi mahasiswa tersebut merembet ke Jakarta, yang memang sudah panas dan berujung pada aksi pendudukan Gedung DPR – MPR di Senayan, yang akhirnya membuat Soeharto meletakkan jabatan sebagai Presiden. Di tengah hiruk pikuk kemenangan mahasiswa, Juwita memergoki Rajendra, kekasih hatinya yang selama ini dicari-carinya, berangkukan mesra dengan seorang aktivis pergerakan perempuan yang sangat terkenal. Juwita kembali ke Pekalongan dengan memendam rasa kecewa. Pun ia tak bisa berbuat apa-apa ketika Juli membeberkan praktik konspirasi antara seorang warga keturunan Cina dengan beberapa penguasa lokal sehingga Gedung Joeang Angkatan 45 pun dilenyapkan begitu saja. Di tengah euforia reformasi, mendadak Juwita kepingin menikmati nuansa alam yang penuh kedamaian. Ia pun bergabung dengan pegiat alam bebas dan pemerhati lingkungan, membentuk LSM Belantara. Di tengah Workshop Lingkungan yang sedang digelar di Rogoselo, Juwita mendapat sesuatu yang tak pernah diduganya sama sekali... Apakah itu? Lagunya Java Jive menjadi jawabannya!
