Kurikulum adalah alat untuk mencapai tujuan pendidikan. Sekolah Minggu yang berdiri tahun 1780 di Inggris telah mengalami perkembangan besar di Amerika, Jerman, Belanda sampai di seluruh dunia termasuk Indonesia dan Manado. Perkembangan kurikulum Sekolah Minggu terjadi seiring dengan kemajuan ilmu pengetahuan dan teknologi, terutama di bidang pedagogi, psikologi dan teologi. Kenyataan sebagian besar gereja-gereja di Manado tidak memiliki kurikulum Sekolah Minggu. Kurikulum Sekolah Minggu yang ada di Manado berasal dari gereja-gereja internasional, nasional dan lokal. Kurikulum tersebut memiliki persamaan dan perbedaan yang belum tentu sesuai dengan sosial budaya serta kebutuhan pelayanan anak Sekolah Minggu gereja-gereja di Manado. Karena itulah ini menarik untuk dikaji terkait tentang perkembangan kurikulum Sekolah Minggu gereja-gereja di Manado. Buku ini mengungkapkan beberapa hal: (1) Kronologis perkembangan kurikulum Sekolah Minggu gereja-gereja di Manado mengikuti perkembangan gereja baik dari Jerman-Belanda, Amerika dan perkembangan gereja-gereja di Indonesia baik di bidang pedagogi, psikologi dan teologi. (2) Perkembangan kurikulum Sekolah Minggu perlu memperhatikan sejarah perkembangan gereja-gereja dan sosial budaya di Manado. (3) Kurikulum Sekolah Minggu gereja-gereja di Manado selain untuk menjawab kebutuhan pelayanan gereja setempat perlu juga diupayakan untuk membangun semangat oikumenis dalam pelayanan Sekolah Minggu serta mendukung upaya melestarikan budaya “torang samua basudara”, baik dengan sesama denominasi Kristen maupun dengan agama-agama yang lain. (4) Upaya pengembangan kurikulum Sekolah Minggu gereja-gereja di Manado perlu memikirkan/mengantisipasi pembelajaran abad ke-21 dengan memprioritaskan pengadaan dan pemberdayakan guru Sekolah Minggu. (5) Penyusunan kurikulum Sekolah Minggu membutuhkan tenaga ahli teologi pedagogi yang berpengalaman serta dana yang tidak sedikit. Karena itu gereja-gereja di Manado dapat bersinergis dan membangun kerja sama dengan perguruan tinggi Kristen untuk memajukan Pendidikan Agama Kristen bagi anak Sekolah Minggu di Manado.
