Youth Migration and Transitions to Adulthood in Developing Countries THE ANNALS of the American Academy of Political and Social Science July 2013, Volume 648 Editors: Fatima Juarez, Thomas LeGrand, Cynthia Lloyd, Susheela Singh and Véronique Hertrich Currently, it is estimated that there are 1.1 billion young people aged 15–24 in the developing world, accounting for nearly one-fifth (18.6 percent) of the total population. During this time of life, young people experience enormous changes due to physical maturation, which is accompanied by cognitive, social/emotional, and interpersonal changes. It is a period when the influence of parents and families gradually diminishes and the influence of external factors, such as peers; the media; the educational environment; and, more generally, the economic, social, and cultural environments in which they live, are increasingly prominent. The articles in this volume of The ANNALS can be classified by three themes: migration in the context of transitions to adulthood, including schooling, employment, and family formation; consequences of migration for health, reproductive outcomes, and childbearing; and migration strategies and consequences. All the articles presented here are innovative in their approach, and their findings advance our understanding of youths’ migration and transitions to adulthood in developing countries. These studies and their findings clearly attest to the enormous diversity of situations of youth migration, transitions to adulthood, and the contexts in which they occur across developing countries. For some adolescents and young adults, migration brings with it very serious risks and often negative consequences, while for others it opens horizons and is associated with expanding opportunities in both the social and economic spheres. Demography Analysis And Synthesis Four Volume Set written by Graziella Caselli and has been published by Academic Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006-01-03 with Reference categories.

This four-volume collection of over 140 original chapters covers virtually everything of interest to demographers, sociologists, and others. Over 100 authors present population subjects in ways that provoke thinking and lead to the creation of new perspectives, not just facts and equations to be memorized. The articles follow a theory-methods-applications approach and so offer a kind of "one-stop shop" that is well suited for students and professors who need non-technical summaries, such as political scientists, public affairs specialists, and others. Unlike shorter handbooks, Demography: Analysis and Synthesis offers a long overdue, thorough treatment of the field. Choosing the analytical method that fits the data and the situation requires insights that the authors and editors of Demography: Analysis and Synthesis have explored and developed. This extended examination of demographic tools not only seeks to explain the analytical tools themselves, but also the relationships between general population dynamics and their natural, economic, social, political, and cultural environments. Limiting themselves to human populations only, the authors and editors cover subjects that range from the core building blocks of population change--fertility, mortality, and migration--to the consequences of demographic changes in the biological and health fields, population theories and doctrines, observation systems, and the teaching of demography. The international perspectives brought to these subjects is vital for those who want an unbiased, rounded overview of these complex, multifaceted subjects. Topics to be covered: * Population Dynamics and the Relationship Between Population Growth and Structure * The Determinants of Fertility * The Determinants of Mortality * The Determinants of Migration * Historical and Geographical Determinants of Population * The Effects of Population on Health, Economics, Culture, and the Environment * Population Policies * Data Collection Methods and Teaching about Population Studies * All chapters share a common format * Each chapter features several cross-references to other chapters * Tables, charts, and other non-text features are widespread * Each chapter contains at least 30 bibliographic citations

Disability And Development In Burkina Faso written by Lara Bezzina and has been published by Springer Nature this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-11-04 with Social Science categories.

This book builds upon critiques of development in the disability domain by investigating the necessity and implications of theorising disability from the Global South and how development policies and practices pertaining to disabled people in such contexts might be improved by engaging with their voices and agency. The author focuses on the lived experiences of disabled people in Burkina Faso, while situating these experiences, where necessary, in the wider national and regional contexts. She explores development agencies’ interventions with disabled people and the need to re-think these practices and ideologies which are often framed within western contexts. This work will appeal to policy makers, NGOs, academics, students and researchers in the fields of development and disability studies.
