This graphic novel tells the story of Demeter, the Greek goddess of the harvest, and her daughter, Persephone. Demeter rules over a perpetual summer on earth, where crops, trees, and flowers grow in abundance. Persephone, young and beautiful, unknowingly attracts the attention of the lonely god of the Underworld, Hades. Hades kidnaps Persephone, and a frantic Demeter searches in vain for her daughter. Finally, Demeter retreats to her temple in mourning. The goddess's sorrow causes the crops to die and the ground to freeze. The first winter falls over Greece. As people begin to starve, the other Olympian gods and goddesses try to convince Demeter to accept a marriage between Persephone and Hades. But Demeter will not give up her daughter forever to the Underworld. Finally a compromise is struck: Persephone will stay with Hades for half a year (winter). When she comes back from the Underworld to spend half a year with her mother, spring returns to earth.

Hades, the wickedly dark god-king of the Underworld, needs a queen... And he’s chosen Persephone. All Persephone has ever desired is control of her own life, and someone noticing her once in a while. Kept in her mother’s shadow, and overlooked by the entirety of Olympus, her dream seems impossible… and now she’s doomed to wed a dull god of her mother’s choosing… Until she crosses paths with a handsome, dark warrior who rouses wildfire heat in her veins—a male whose immense power is unmistakable, and who matches the fearful tales whispered in Olympus—stories of a cruel, heartless king who rules his realm of death with an iron fist. When Hades abducts her and imprisons her in the depths of the Underworld, a dormant part of her awakens. And as she slowly discovers the truth about him, Persephone isn’t sure whether the snarling, dark beast of a king is her doom… or her saviour… but she knows one thing… She will embrace the fire he awakens in her with every heated glance, and every vicious growl. And use it to tame him and forge her dreams into reality. Because, Persephone, the quiet, gentle goddess of nature, desires a king. And nothing will stop her from claiming his black heart. Queen of the Underworld is a forced proximity, enemies-to-lovers paranormal romance novel retelling the Greek myth of Hades and Persephone, and a prequel in my Guardians of Hades series. In the vein of an adult beauty and the beast, it features a grumpy-sunshine pairing that will steal your heart, with a secretly cinnamon roll hero and a secretly fiery heroine, and a powerful forever kind of love. All Guardians of Hades books have no cliffhangers, a guaranteed happily ever after, and some strong language. Enjoy! keywords: paranormal, paranormal romance, paranormal romance books for adults, Greek gods, greek gods romance, gods romance, gods, goddesses, goddess romance, Greek goddesses, immortals, immortal romance, Greek mythology, Greek myths, fantasy romance, alpha hero, strong heroine, action, long series, adventure, no cliffhangers, guaranteed HEA, happily ever after

Persephone is a goddess without a title even though her relatives include the Lord of Light, Goddess of Wisdom, and the Queen of the Gods. She’s only known as the daughter of her mother, something that leaves her feeling frustrated. She longs to escape Mount Olympus to discover who she truly is. Hades is the god of the Underworld, and when family obligations force him to attend a festival, he sees Persephone and knows what he’s looking at: a vibrant young goddess aching to break free. So begins an unlikely and tentative friendship that allows Persephone to cultivate her curiosity and blossom as a goddess in her own right. The two escape to the Underworld together, infuriating Persephone’s mother, the goddess Demeter. Crops die and mortals begin to starve as a consequence of Demeter’s wrath, and Persephone has two choices: Take charge of her own life or abandon the person she has become by returning to Olympus. The classical Greek myth of Demeter and her daughter Persephone as told in Homer's Hymn to Demeter has been used most often to explain the cycle of the seasons. However, a closer examination will reveal insights on living and dying, loss and reconciliation, and suffering and healing. This work demostrates the continued importance and relevance of the myth of Demeter and Persephone to today's society. The first three chapters provide a summary of the Homeric story and examine the myth from the perspectives of the mother and daughter. The following chapters discuss the symbolism of critical objects, the role of female mentoring, the role of Hades and the meaning of the underworld, the subject of rape, and the masculinist perspective presented by Zeus and Helios, and derive lessons useful for healing and knowledge. The Hymn to Demeter as translated by Helene Foley is included as an appendix in order to provide a basis for the discussion in the text. Notes and a bibliography also follow the text.

The Daughters of Zeus, Book One "Persephone is a fun, imaginative, smart retelling of my favorite myth, fusing modern culture with a rich world of magic." Amazon Top Reviewer, Molly Ringle, Author of Persephone's Orchard. One day Persephone is an ordinary high school junior working at her mom's flower shop in Athens, Georgia. The next she's fighting off Boreas, the brutal god of Winter, and learning that she's a bonafide goddess--a rare daughter of the now-dead Zeus. Her goddess mom whisks her off to the Underworld to hide until Spring. There she finds herself under the protection of handsome Hades, the god of the dead, and she's automatically married to him. It's the only way he can keep her safe. Older, wiser, and far more powerful than she, Hades isn't interested in becoming her lover, at least not anytime soon. But every time he rescues her from another of Boreas' schemes, they fall in love a little more. Will Hades ever admit his feelings for her? Can she escape the grasp of the god of Winter's minions? The Underworld is a very nice place, but is it worth giving up her life in the realm of the living? Her goddess powers are developing some serious, kick-butt potential. She's going to fight back. "I enjoyed Hades and Persephone's sweet romantic relationship. Persephone has her flaws, but she is likable and learns along the way. The author's writing is descriptive and entertaining. I am looking forward to the next book." Rebecca Foote @ Paranormal Muse "Everyone needs to check this book out, I can't rave enough about it, Bevis is definitely a new talent to keep an eye out for. I give this 5/5." Sarah Brown @ Head Stuck in a Book "I found this book to be a fun and fast-paced adventure through Greek mythology with a modern twist." Stephanie Ward @ A Dream Within a Dream "From the first paragraph, I was enthralled with this story. I read it all in one sitting and enjoyed every minute of it. What a great spin on a Greek myth! Move over Rick Riordan!" Amazon Top Reviewer, Rita Webb, Author of Daughter of the Goddess "This story will completely suck you in . . . This book is the first of a trilogy, and I can't wait to see what's in store for these amazing characters." Amazon Top Reviewer, Melissa Groeling, Author of Beauty Marks Kaitlin Bevis spent her childhood curled up with a book and a pen. If the ending didn't agree with her, she rewrote it. Ruth Pitter, who died in 1992, was the first (but not the last) woman poet to be awarded the Queen's Gold Medal for Poetry (in 1955). She was a remarkable writer of beautiful and moving lyrics, haunting in their melodic simplicity. She also won a firm following for her comic verse, still as funny today as it was when it was first written. In 1931, she completed her only lengthy narrative poem, Persephone in Hades. It was printed privately and quickly forgotten. However, Persephone is a statement of faith, in the classical style, recording Pitter's dark night of the soul and triumph of the spirit - and if this is not early feminist writing, it is certainly, in its own way, iconoclastic. With a preface by Helena Nelson, here is an opportunity to enter the Underworld, and return enriched.

We all know the myth of how Hades saw Persephone and just had to have her as his wife. In the myth, there is an abduction and other negative things that paint Hades in a horrible way. But, what if the truth of that myth was something beautiful and filled with love and longing and destiny? What if Demeter, Persephone's mother who was heartbroken at her daughter leaving her and enraged by the fact that she would be in the Underworld, spread lies about their story? This tale sheds a new light on what happened between Persephone and Hades, and it shows that there can be light in the darkest of places, and darkness in the sunlight.
