Un extrano suceso se produce en el turno de noche de una fabrica de automoviles. La television anuncia a los investigadores el alcance mundial del fenomeno. Un fogonazo terrible de luz y un gran estruendo, precede a la desaparicion de un encargado y al shock traumatico de cuatro de sus hombres. Se paraliza la fabrica y comienzan las investigaciones mas angustiosas y tortuosas de la carrera del comisario. El misterio, la incognita, la incertidumbre, y la tension rigen de principio a fin y se elevan en un gran interrogante al final. Los contrastes son la nota dominante en toda la obra: entre la ciudad en fiestas y la orgia, avidez y evasion con que se vive en medio de una caliginosa y tetrica noche sin luna, y esa luz relampagueante que se lleva al encargado y su familia. Entre los avances cientificos y tecnologicos, y la degradacion humana, moral, y la violencia imperante. Entre las vidas de los personajes, antes y despues de que la luz los alumbre; entre el modo de pensar de los que se han ido, y el de los que quedan; entre un dia y otro, en el que la vida cambia radicalmente para todos. Reconocemos el dificil mundo laboral, politico, economico, ideologico, social, y moral o inmoral que se nos describe, a traves de los personajes que intervienen. Todas las situaciones y los personajes son descritos con toda la complejidad que tiene la propia realidad. Por ello, asistimos a un desfilar de seres "normales" con los disfraces del egoismo, la simulacion, el orgullo, la altivez que dan lugar al rapto.
