Excerpt from Personality and Conduct The primary object of social regulation is to protect the individual members of society from the invasive acts of each other. The need for this regulation is accentuated by the conflicting elements in human nature which require some adjustment. In other words, the individual must be protected in a measure from himself as well as from others. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from Social Behavior and Personality: Contributions of W. I. Thomas to Theory and Social Research There is a difference, however, between an interpretive system of human social life and a system for studying that life so that it can be understood. Thomas'. System is of the latter variety, but it is not so clearly apparent in his writings as one might wish. It must be recon structed from his mature work. If this is done and his later ideas are Viewed in conjunction with his earlier ones, there emerges the image of a person who was groping toward, and in some ways found, a fundamental position regarding the study of human behavior. Excerpt from Collective Behavior During the decade and a half since it was taken off an airy diet Of instincts and put on a nourishing diet Of factual data, social psychology has been the child prodigy and the problem. Child Of the social sciences. Growing awkwardly and sometimes randomly, but always growing at a tremendous. Rate, it was bold and meek by turns. Roundly cursed by some for the havoc its virile concepts caused in the elder disciplines, it was just as roundly praised by others for What it contributed to these disciplines. Social psychology still retains its youthful vigor, but it has now passed its troubled adolescence and has arrived at a mature understanding of its phenomena. That understanding, briefly stated, is that the personality Of the human being is acquired in the course Of social interactions with other human beings. Excerpt from The Psychology of Behaviour: A Practical Study of Human Personality and Conduct With a Special Reference to Methods of Development The study of man's thoughts, feelings, and motives is a universally fascinating one. Even the least thoughtful of us love to watch and speculate upon our neighbours' actions and have sometimes an even greater interest for our own. Any extensive or careful analysis, however, of "human nature" has been left almost entirely to the great philosophers and moralizers, for the very good reason that the common knowledge of the human mind and its springs of action has been too limited and uncertain to allow of any satisfactory conclusions by the layman. Factors In Conduct Classic Reprint written by Thiselton Mark and has been published by Forgotten Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-02-07 with Philosophy categories.

Excerpt from Factors in Conduct This little book is a companion volume to The Unfolding of Personality. It passes on, in brief and unpretentious fashion, from the psychological view of behaviour there presented to an ethical view. Perhaps the best apology the book Offers for itself is its brevity. Written before the war, though revised for the press since, it makes no direct reference to the burning questions of the hour. It only aims to be a short and popular preface to ethical discussion. At no point is morality spoken of as though it were an artificial or super-normal product, an 'extra'; but everywhere as being embedded in life as men live it. The view taken is simply that moral action is healthy action or, in terms of evolution, that natural selection selects morality.' Morality, in a word, belongs to man. It stands for the part he has to play. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Personality And Assessment written by Walter Mischel and has been published by Psychology Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-04-15 with Psychology categories.

After many "out-of-print" years, this volume has been reissued in response to an increasing demand for copies. This reflects that the fundamental questions that motivated this book thirty years ago are still being asked. But more important, the answers -- or at least their outlines -- now seem to be in sight. In 1968, this book stood as an expression of a paradigm crisis in its critique of the state of personality psychology. The last three decades have been filled with controversy and debate about the dilemmas raised here, and then with renewal and fresh discoveries. It therefore seems especially timely to revisit the pages which posed the challenges. Mischel outlined the need to encompass the situation in the study of personality, but with a focus on the acquired meaning of stimuli and on the situation as perceived, viewing the individual as a cognitive-affective being who construes, interprets, and transforms the stimulus in a dynamic reciprocal interaction with the social world. He focused on the idiographic analysis of personality that had originally motivated the field, and the complexity, discriminative facility, and uniqueness of the individual, and sought to connect the expressions of personality to the individual's behavior -- that is, to what people do and not just what they say. Even the intrinsically contextualized "if...then..." expressions of the personality system -- its essential behavioral signatures -- were foreshadowed in this book that fired the opening salvo in a search for "a truly dynamic personality psychology."
