Have you ever wondered why certain leaders are more popular than the others among their workers or followers? What really influences one's leadership style? Does personality trait of an individual influence their leadership style in anyway? Well, these are the questions that this study conducted in Pune city among the English medium school administrators strives to answer. The purpose of this study was to identify the personality types and leadership styles of the administrators of four selected English schools in Pune city, India. Then derive a relationship between their leadership style and their personality type. It also determines the ways in which the school teachers classify their respective administrators leading style. Rating scale, questionnaire, interview and observation were used as the instruments for this study. After the analysis of the collected data, the conclusions confirmed that the personality type of a leader does influence his or her leadership style.

Purpose - Teacher must act as a leader because his/her role is very effective in educational change. Influence of personality traits on leadership styles has been a significant topic in management but no research emphasis has been given to teacher's personality influence on their leadership behaviors. This research investigates the correlation between these two aspects. Design/methodology/approach - Quantitative research is done by means of survey to a convenient sample of 228 teachers of public elementary and high schools of Lahore. Findings - The dominant traits are associated with both leadership styles thus showing that both people and task oriented leadership styles are effective. Research limitations/implications - This research can be generalized to other areas. Practical implications - The research emphasizes the importance of traits and their influence on behavior. Further researches should examine the traits which are needed for an effective leadership styles. Originality/value - The major contribution of this paper is that it correlate personality traits with leadership styles and high light those traits which are associated with effective leadership styles i.e. people oriented so teachers become more aware to adopt those traits which produce effective behavior and change.

If in ancient times the leader was the figure of someone considered the strongest – behavior which can also be found today among animals- and the most powerful or ruthless in the battlefield, leadership is today associated with some unusual personality traits –with which some people are naturally born-, and extreme difficult to be found among the population, that continue to influence and impact others, not by using power or strength as in the past but by influencing thinking, opinion and behavior. Power, success, wealth and a charismatic personality are also some of the most commonly related features to such term. While this topic has been centered for some time now in the question around whether leadership skills can be learned or someone has to be born with them, it is important to think that any person has the potential to shape, improve or develop his/her personality in order to strengthen some of the qualities and values typically associated to leadership which will be reviewed in this assignment. Steve Jobs, Henry Ford, Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, Christopher Columbus, Isaac Newton, Albert Einstein and many others have led their companies, countries or in some cases mankind to overcome difficult situations, improve themselves and achieve goals which at first could seem unreachable. Leadership, Work, and the Dark Side of Personality uses an interpersonal psychological perspective to unite general theories of both personality and leadership.
