This book discusses legal services clinics and various other access-to-justice initiatives that are established to protect and represent the rights and interests of children and youth in several countries across the globe. These could include legal services or access-to-justice clinics run by government or universities or community. The book has contributions from academicians, lawyers, researchers and legal professionals from several counties including India, UK, USA, Brazil, Australia, Indonesia, Poland, and Spain, which discuss how they represent children and youth in their countries. The book looks at how these access-to-justice initiatives currently provide assistance, what are the child friendly justice procedures they use, and best practices that can be replicable in other jurisdictions. The chapters contain findings of field research studies, some case studies, and models related to these topics. There are recommendations on ways to strengthen access-to-justice and legal services for empowering children and youth. The main goal is to create a resource for readers who want to expand child advocacy opportunities in their own universities and communities. The reader may also learn how to conduct legislative advocacy and case law advocacy to improve laws in other jurisdictions; and take-away best and replicable initiatives. The practices could be adaptable by other clinics and countries. The book will be useful to child rights advocates and defenders, students of law, legal researchers, civil society organizations, legal services authorities, legal aid institutions, educational institutions, school authorities, juvenile justice authorities, clinical legal educators, justice educators, justice practitioners and law and policy makers.

Be inspired by this grassroots civil rights lawyer's quest for democracy, equality, and justice Born in 1947 and raised in rural South Carolina, Lewis Pitts grew up oblivious to the civil rights revolution underway across the country. A directionless white college student in 1968, Pitts committed to military service and was destined for Vietnam. Five years later—after a formative period in which he underwent an intellectual and moral awakening, was discharged as a conscientious objector, and graduated from law school—he embarked on an unlikely forty-year career as a crusading social justice attorney. The Life of a Movement Lawyer: Lewis Pitts and the Struggle for Democracy, Equality, and Justice chronicles how Pitts positively affected thousands of lives and communities, while working in various social movements and then for legal aid. These grassroots efforts included fights to end nuclear proliferation; seeking justice for victims and survivors of the Greensboro Massacre; restarting the local government in Keysville, Georgia; preserving Gullah culture on Daufuskie Island, South Carolina; and ending corruption in Robeson County, North Carolina. Beyond documenting a life well-lived and shedding light on lesser-known activists and movements, Langberg, in this thoroughly researched biography, explores problems that continue to afflict the United States today: poverty, inequality, environmental degradation, racism, police misconduct, voter suppression, child maltreatment, and corporate power. The Life of a Movement Lawyer will energize, inspire, and compel action by those who seek to continue the pursuit of justice for all.

Children S Voice And Justice written by Annette Ruth Appell and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008 with categories.

This paper was one of the opening papers for a working conference at William S. Boyd School of Law, UNLV, in January 2006, quot;Representing Children in Families: Children's Advocacy amp; Justice Ten Years After Fordham.quot; The conference was a reflection on and continuation of the Conference on Ethical Issues in the Legal Representation of Children. This paper introduces the project and establishes a framework for the exploration of the relationships between children's advocacy and justice. The paper is built on two premises: children's lawyers want to help children; and the natural dominance and myopia of lawyers is exacerbated when representing children in ways that can easily mask children's disparate identities and needs. The paper asserts that because children are not able to direct their lawyers as forcefully or coherently as adults, lawyers for children should exercise extra care and strategies to ascertain children's needs and wishes, such as viewing children through multiple lenses (not just quot;developmentalquot; and legal) and engaging children's families and communities in our work. The paper presents three conceptual approaches for child advocacy and justice: procedural, legal and social. It then explores a manner of advocacy that might amplify the voice of children (and families and communities) both in legal proceedings to which children are parties and in defining justice.
