Buku referensi ini merupakan kumpulan berbagai referensi dan hasil-hasil penelitian kondisi hemostasis pada diabetes melitus tipe 2, serta penggunaan metode tromboelastografi dalam pemeriksaan faal hemostasis. Ada beberapa komponen yang berperan dalam hemostasis, yaitu pembuluh darah, trombosit, faktor-faktor koagulasi darah, dan fibrinolisis. Hemostasis merupakan mekanisme fisiologis di dalam tubuh untuk menghentikan perdarahan melalui proses pembekuan darah, serta menjaga darah supaya tetap cair melalui proses fibrinolisis. Kelainan hemostasis pada proses pembekuan darah dapat menyebabkan perdarahan. Selain itu, kelainan hemostasis pada proses fibrinolisis dapat menyebabkan trombosis. Buku ini didahului dengan Bab 1 yang memaparkan sekilas tentang prevalensi penyakit diabetes melitus tipe 2, kelainan hemostasis, dan pemeriksaan hemostasis yang telah rutin dilakukan. Selanjutnya pada Bab 2 dijelaskan tentang diabetes melitus mulai dari definisi, patofisiologi, manifestasi klinis, kriteria diagnosis, hingga komplikasinya. Bab 3 menjelaskan tentang hemostasis, yang terdiri dari hemostasis primer, sekunder, dan tersier, kemudian dilanjutkan Bab 4 yang memaparkan tentang patofisiologi kelainan-kelainan hemostasis pada diabetes melitus tipe 2. Penjelasan mengenai pemeriksaan faal hemostasis dituliskan pada Bab 5, yang dilanjutkan dengan penjelasan tentang tromboelastografi pada Bab 6. Dalam Bab 7 dikupas tentang hasil-hasil penelitian pemeriksaan tromboelastografi pada diabetes melitus tipe 2 dan ditutup dengan kesimpulan pada Bab 8. Belum banyak dijumpai buku referensi terkait dengan penggunaan metode tromboelastografi pada kondisi diabetes melitus tipe 2, semoga buku ini dapat menambah wawasan bidang ilmu kedokteran mengenai penggunaan tromboelastografi untuk mendeteksi kelainan hemostasis pada diabetes melitus tipe 2.
