Este livro destaca três correntes teóricas, o Positivismo, a Fenomenologia e o Marxismo, que, segundo o autor, têm predominado na realização da pesquisa em Ciências Sociais e, de maneira específica, na Educação e nos Cursos de Pós-graduação. O texto apresenta, inicialmente, idéias orientadoras que facilitam uma concepção do mundo, da vida e do homem. Em seguida, coloca em relevo os traços fundamentais que distinguem o Positivismo, a Fenomenologia e o Marxismo. Apresenta ainda alguns tópicos considerados necessários a todo projeto de pesquisa e, finalmente, destaca a importância da denominada pesquisa qualitativa.

O Grupo de Pesquisa Educação, Arte e Inclusão, criado em 2006, publicou três livros socializando suas pesquisas. O primeiro, "Educação, arte e inclusão: trajetórias de pesquisa", discorre sobre parcerias com pesquisas nacionais e internacionais, até o ano de 2009. O segundo, "Conversas de Grupo de Pesquisa: enlaces entre educação e arte" publicado em 2013, apresenta as pesquisa destes anos e finalmente, publicamos o terceiro, que fecha um ciclo e se abre para novas possibilidades, intitulado de "Novas conversas no grupo de pesquisa educação, arte e inclusão". Assim, o livro traz contribuições de diferentes pesquisadoras que dialogam com as temáticas do grupo de pesquisa. Iniciamos realizando um balanço dos primeiros 15 anos do grupo, registrando suas histórias de pesquisa e organização. Ainda na esteira dos estudos que tomam o desenho universal como objeto temos a análise das contribuições do desenho universal para aprendizagem na permanência de estudantes com deficiência no ensino superior. Os estudos sobre a participação de percepção dos gestores sobre a acessibilidade para estudantes autistas no ensino superior também tomam fundamental importância na trajetória do grupo. Uma ênfase desses primeiros 15 anos do grupo tem relação com o campo da arte e da educação. Deste modo, abordamos problemáticas vinculadas ao ensino da música e das artes visuais para públicos com deficiência, na rede escolar, mas também em outros espaços diferenciados. Destacamos assim a importância de investigar tomando por base as narrativas dos docentes sobre suas práticas, assim como a formação do público com deficiência nos espaços culturais, museus e por que não, na produção de objetos artísticos. Problematizamos também no conteúdo deste livro, um trabalho desenvolvido pela professora de arte, na APAE de Belém, a partir da psicologia Histórico-cultural. Outra dimensão dos estudos do Grupo de Pesquisa se revela na produção de materiais adaptados, objetos pedagógicos, jogos, práticas didáticas e demais recursos para o ensino, que ampliem as oportunidades das pessoas com deficiência de interagirem com o mundo, participar dos processos sociais, educacionais e artístico-culturais da sociedade. This book discusses how teaching and research have been weighted differently in academia in 18 countries and one region, Hong Kong SAR, based on an international comparative study entitled the Changing Academic Profession (CAP). It addresses these issues using empirical evidence, the CAP data. Specifically, the focus is on how teaching and research are defined in each higher education system, how teaching and research are preferred and conducted by academics, and how academics are rewarded by their institution. Since the establishment of Berlin University in 1810, there has been controversy on teaching and research as the primary functions of universities and academics. The controversy increased when Johns Hopkins University was established in 1876 with only graduate programs, and more recently with the release of the Carnegie Foundation report Scholarship Reconsidered by Ernest L. Boyer in 1990. Since the publication of Scholarship Reconsidered in 1990, higher education scholars and policymakers began to pay attention to the details of teaching and research activities, a kind of ‘black box’ because only individual academics know how they conduct teaching and research in their own contexts.
