Throughout the centuries, there has been controversy as to whether Christians should defend themselves or not for some time. This has been unfortunate due to the lack of a careful study of the life and message of Jesus Christ. Some have mixed up the teachings and actions of Ghandi and other religious leaders with those of Christ. Theu do this by reimagining the Lord Jesus Christ as a sort of a mild-mannered, hippy flower child who wouldn't harm a flea. Misusing Jesus' command to "turn the other cheek," they have turned some Christians into pacifists which allows unbelievers to take advantage of them on many fronts. This is absurd! The Lord was continually defending Himself both verbally and physically. Though He had allowed them to arrest Him to die for His own, He let the authorities know in no uncertain terms that He was in complete control. In this book, we will carefully study His use of self-defense analogies and His clear instructions to His disciples in the upper room at their Last Supper together that self-defense would be warranted at times. His actions during His ministry, in the garden at His arrest, His warning of His certain return in power in vengeance to both the Jewish and Roman authorities will demonstrate that Jesus believed and practiced self-defense. We will discover that "turning the other cheek" had nothing to do with self-defense and the greatest way to love our neighbors and enemies is to prevent one from harming the other through self-defense.
