Smoking cessation is, undoubtedly, one of the most difficult tasks to conquer. Cigarette smoking continues to be the leading preventable cause of death and disease in developed countries (Hung, Dunlop, Perez and Cotter, 2011). Over 68% of smokers want to quit. Many try multiple times but return because of withdrawal symptoms. A smoker is four times more likely to successfully quit if they are offered medication therapy along with ongoing support, than by attempting to quit by willpower alone (Bostock-Cox, 2010). Combining medications for smoking cessation produces higher quit rates than using one single medication (Loh, Piper, Schlam and others, 2011). While there are multiple cessation adjuncts available, the utilization of these by the both the patient and the health care provider is often lacking. One of the barriers to medication use is education of both the provider and the patient. Creating a structured education plan, for both the patient and the provider, to bring awareness to the benefits and success of using combination pharmacotherapy, will enable smokers to successfully quit smoking. Furthermore, smokers are more likely to quit when advised by a physician or health care provider. Too often, clinicians fail to screen for tobacco use (CDC, 2012). Provihealth carehcare practitioners with screening tools enables the physician or nurse to screen for tobacco use, and advise patients to quit smoking. This project will provide a screening tool to be used by practitioners for an in-patient setting; educate both the patient and provider; and encourage the use of combination pharmacotherapy for smoking cessation.

Millions of Americans use e-cigarettes. Despite their popularity, little is known about their health effects. Some suggest that e-cigarettes likely confer lower risk compared to combustible tobacco cigarettes, because they do not expose users to toxicants produced through combustion. Proponents of e-cigarette use also tout the potential benefits of e-cigarettes as devices that could help combustible tobacco cigarette smokers to quit and thereby reduce tobacco-related health risks. Others are concerned about the exposure to potentially toxic substances contained in e-cigarette emissions, especially in individuals who have never used tobacco products such as youth and young adults. Given their relatively recent introduction, there has been little time for a scientific body of evidence to develop on the health effects of e-cigarettes. Public Health Consequences of E-Cigarettes reviews and critically assesses the state of the emerging evidence about e-cigarettes and health. This report makes recommendations for the improvement of this research and highlights gaps that are a priority for future research.

WHO has published a global TB report every year since 1997. The main aim of the report is to provide a comprehensive and up-to-date assessment of the TB epidemic and of progress in prevention diagnosis and treatment of the disease at global regional and country levels. This is done in the context of recommended global TB strategies and targets endorsed by WHO?s Member States and broader development goals set by the United Nations (UN). The 2018 edition of the global TB report was released on 18 September in the lead up to the first-ever UN High Level Meeting on TB on 26 September 2018.
