A plague is spreading across the world. People are dying and no cure can be found. The plague was created by a sorcerer and he is the only one who knows how to stop it. Where is he and who will dare to face the 3000 years old mummy who has finally gotten his revenge? Will humans go extinct or will they be saved? Find out in "Pharos, the Egyptian" by Guy Boothby. Guy Boothby was an Australian author who lived in the period 1867-1905. His earlier works described life in Australia, but he gained wide popularity with his later fiction, which offered a vivid combination of crime, science fiction and horror stories. Boothby is well known for his Doctor Nikola series, a collection of novels telling the story of an occultist who seeks immortality and world domination. Other popular stories by him are "A Prince of Swindlers", which tells the story of a thief, and "Uncle Joe's Legacy and Other Stories", which is a collection of ghost stories. All in all, Guy Boothby left the world a colourful and rich literary legacy.

This eBook has been formatted to the highest digital standards and adjusted for readability on all devices. Pharos is a very old Egyptian, at least ninety-years old, extremely knowledgeable about Egyptian antiquities. He meets Sir William Betford, a peer living in England, who owns an extensive collection of Egyptian antiquities collected earlier by his father, an historian and archeologist who focused on ancient Egypt. The meeting was contrived by Pharos because he wanted to retrieve a mummy he had been searching for a long time, which is now in Betford's collection. Pharos manages to lure Sir Betford into his sphere of influence, and eventually persuades Englishman to accompany him on a trip to Egypt, where it turns out that Pharos is not who he seems to be.

What is a lighthouse? What does it mean? What does it do? This book shows how exchanging knowledge across disciplinary boundaries can transform our thinking. Adopting an unconventional structure, this book involves the reader in a multivocal conversation between scholars, poets and artists. Seen through their individual perspectives, lighthouses appear as signals of safety, beacons of enlightenment, phallic territorial markers, and memorials of historical relationships with the sea. However, the interdisciplinary conversation also reveals underlying and sometimes unexpected connections. It elucidates the human and non-human evolutionary adaptations that use light for signalling and warning; the visual languages created by regularity and synchronicity in pulses of light; how lighthouses have generated a whole ‘family’ of related material objects and technologies; and the way that light flows between social and material worlds.

Popular Receptions Of Archaeology written by Susanne Duesterberg and has been published by transcript Verlag this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-02-28 with History categories.

Popular archaeology is a heterogeneous phenomenon: Focusing on the German archaeologist Heinrich Schliemann, Egyptian mummies, and the ruin complex Great Zimbabwe in fictional and factual texts, Susanne Duesterberg analyses the popular reception of archaeology in Victorian and Edwardian Britain. She offers an interdisciplinary and comparative view on the reception of the different archaeologies, reflecting contemporary sociocultural concerns in connection with identity formation. With its focus on popular culture as well as identity and memory studies, the book appeals to both a general public and experts from various disciplines.
