Philosophical Food Crumbs A Kierkegaard Cookbook is a fun and alternative way into the works of Kierkegaard. Through food and history (recipes, anecdotes, and quotes) it tells a small piece of the story of the man and his times-the thoughts and the culture that shaped Kierkegaard as a human being and into a world known philosopher. Philosophical Food Crumbs A Kierkegaard Cookbook (Souvenir Edition 2013) celebrates Kierkegaard's bicentennial year from a homecook's perspective. It time travels to the Golden Age of Denmark (1800-1850) with over a dozen historical recipes. The cookbook offers original translations of lesser known Kierkegaard quotes and a sampling of foodie facts. Includes more than two dozen modern recipes. This 82-page cookbook is a Danish - American collaboration between two women who let Kierkegaard into their lives. It is a contribution to celebrate Kierkegaard's 200th birthday. The Kierkegaard Cookbook project was inspired by their Summer Fellowship to the Hong Kierkegaard Library. Both authors have a degree in philosophy and enjoy sharing Kierkegaard with others. This book is both academic study and entertainment. It is for Kierkegaardians and cookbook collectors as much as it is for homecooks and individuals who enjoy edifying experiences.

'The love of repetition is in truth the only happy love' So says Constantine Constantius on the first page of Kierkegaard's Repetition. Life itself, according to Kierkegaard's pseudonymous narrator, is a repetition, and in the course of this witty, playful work Constantius explores the nature of love and happiness, the passing of time and the importance of moving forward (and backward). The ironically entitled Philosophical Crumbs pursues the investigation of faith and love and their tense relationship with reason. Written only a year apart, these two works complement each other and give the reader a unique insight into the breadth and substance of Kierkegaard's thought. The first reads like a novel and the second like a Platonic dialogue, but both engage, in different ways, the same challenging issues. These are the first translations to convey the literary quality and philosophical precision of the originals. They were not intended, however, for philosophers, but for anyone who feels drawn to the question of the ultimate truth of human existence and the source of human happiness. ABOUT THE SERIES: For over 100 years Oxford World's Classics has made available the widest range of literature from around the globe. Each affordable volume reflects Oxford's commitment to scholarship, providing the most accurate text plus a wealth of other valuable features, including expert introductions by leading authorities, helpful notes to clarify the text, up-to-date bibliographies for further study, and much more.

Studies of women's roles in the secular literary world, as patrons, authors, readers, and characters in secular literature. This second volume of proceedings from the `Women and the Book' conference, held at St Hilda's College, Oxford in 1993, brings together fifteen papers dealing with women's experience in the secular literary world. It covers the whole variety of roles women might take, as patrons, authors, readers, and characters in secular literature; encompassed in its range are well-known characters, real and fictional, such as Christine de Pisan and the Wife of Bath, and the more obscure but no less fascinating topic of women in Chinese medieval court poetry. Like its predecessor Women, the Book, and the Godly(Brewer, 1995), this volume illuminates the world of medieval women with carefulscholarship and attention to sources, producing new readings and new materials which shed fresh light on an increasingly important field of study. "In preparing this work for the public, the writer was chiefly influenced by a desire to collect the truths of Zoology within a small compass, and to render them more intelligible, by a systematical arrangement. He is not aware that there exists any work in the English language, in which the subject, in its different bearings, has been illustrated in a philosophical manner, or to which a student of Zoology could be referred, as a suitable introduction to the science. There are not wanting, it is true, many disquisitions of great value, on particular departments of the physiology and classification of Animals. But the writings of these naturalists, and others which have been noticed in the body of the work, are not only rare, but expensive; so that the task of investigating the facts which have been established, or the theories which have been proposed, can scarcely, in ordinary circumstances, be entered upon. The want, indeed, of such an introduction to the study of the Animal Kingdom, as should serve as an index to the doctrines on which the classification is founded, has frequently been the subject of regret, and may probably be considered as the origin of that indifference to the science which is but too apparent in this country. This work aims to provide such an introduction by providing a view of the structure, functions, and classification of animals"--Preface.

Chatter written by Peter Fenves and has been published by Stanford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1993 with Philosophy categories.

This book shows that in "chatter" Kierkegaard uncovered a specifically linguistic mode of negativity, which became the medium in which a non-speculative and non-historicism presentation of history could be carried out. The author examines in detail those writings of Kierkegaard in which he undertook complex negotiations with the threat—and also the promise—of "chatter."
