Essay from the year 2015 in the subject Ethics, grade: 3.87 (A-), The Pennsylvania State University - Worthington Scranton, course: Ethics, language: English, abstract: Corporate Social Responsibility and its monitoring by governments, activists and the media have incorporated CSR into the daily activity of companies which desire to remain competitive in today’s market. “Microsoft Wins 'Most Ethical' Award--Google, Facebook, Apple Don't Make The List” was the headline of Huffington Post and according to Ethisphere Institute, the award is presented to those companies who lead their industry in the ethics and compliance programs. The companies evaluated span several industries, from food to banking industries. A few examples of other companies that made the 110 most ethical list are Adobe, Cisco, eBay and Symantec. Companies are analyzed based on corporate social responsibility, citizenship, governance, innovation, social contribution and many others factors. Ethisphere is an institution that entitles itself as the following: “The Ethisphere® Institute is the global leader in defining and advancing the standards of ethical business practices that fuel corporate character, marketplace trust and business success. We have a deep expertise in measuring and defining core ethics standards using data-driven insights that help companies enhance corporate character. Ethisphere believes integrity and transparency impact the public trust and the bottom line of any organization.” Microsoft started to make a big "corporate citizenship" push in the early 2000s following the negative fallout from its antitrust trials, and has since donated millions to non-profits, invested in programs for economic development, and tightened up its internal reporting processes. All of this was apparently enough to get the company on the list this year. Yet, that has not always been the case.

Meaningful Work written by Mike W. Martin and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2000-03-16 with Philosophy categories.

As commonly understood, professional ethics consists of shared duties and episodic dilemmas--the responsibilities incumbent on all members of specific professions joined together with the dilemmas that arise when these responsibilities conflict. Martin challenges this "consensus paradigm" as he rethinks professional ethics to include personal commitments and ideals, of which many are not mandatory. Using specific examples from a wide range of professions, including medicine, law, high school teaching, journalism, engineering, and ministry, he explores how personal commitments motivate, guide, and give meaning to work.

Self Deception And Morality written by Mike W. Martin and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1986 with Philosophy categories.

This book systematically explores the moral issues surrounding self-deception. While many articles and books have been written on the concept of self-deception in recent years, Martin's gives much greater emphasis to self-deception as a significant topic for both ethical theory and applied ethics. "Self-deception is . . . perplexing from a moral point of view. It seems tailor-made to camouflage and foster immorality. . . . Does all self-deception involve some guilt, and is it among the most abhorrent evils. as some moralists and theologians have charged? Or is it only wrong sometimes, such as when it has bad consequences? Could it on occasion be permissible or even desirable to deceive ourselves, just as we are sometimes justified in deceiving other people? Are self-deceivers perhaps more like innocent victims than perpetrators of deceit, and as such deserving of compassion and help? Or, paradoxically, are they best viewed with ambivalence: culpable as deceivers and simultaneously innocent as victims of deception?" (from the introduction) Martin develops a conception of self-deception as the purposeful evasion of acknowledging to oneself truths or one's view of truth. He details a systematic framework for understanding the main moral perspectives and traditions concerning self-deception that have emerged in western philosophy. In so doing, he clarifies related concepts like sincerity, authenticity, honesty, hypocrisy, weakness of will, and self-understanding. Ranging across traditions both philosophical (Kant, Kierkegaard, and Sartre) and non-philosophical (Freud, Eugene O'Neill, and Henrik Ibsen), Martin shows why self-deception is as morally complex as any other major form of behavior. The appeal of this book is broad. The volume will challenge professional philosophers and psychologists, yet it is organized and written to be accessible to students in courses on ethics, philosophy of mind, and philosophy of literature. Martin's numerous literary examples should also interest literary critics.

Ethics is a central part of our lives. It is as basic and pervasive as thinking and feeling. And it is not just what keeps us compliant with the law, it is the gateway to the quality of our relationships and the spiritual fulfilment of our lives. The Little Book of Ethics introduces us to ethics through the lens of values, and offers us five core human values - honesty, peace, right action, love and insight. It shows how these values are applied in different domains of our lives, and relates them to six aims of human life, where ethics is united with meaning and purpose.

This essential new text is designed for courses in contemporary moral issues, applied ethics, and leadership. Emphasizing personal choice in the study of ethics, the authors take the reader on a journey of self-discovery rather than a mere academic survey of the field of ethics. A Practical Guide to Ethics: Living and Leading with Integrity helps students develop their skills in ethical decision-making and put those decisions into effective practice. Its unique focus on leadership, especially the moral dimensions of understanding one's own values, teaches students to understand and, through dialog and negotiation, communicate their own beliefs as a step to building coalitions with those who may hold different views. It is also distinctive in combining ethical theory with both multicultural ethics (Confucianism, Hinduism, Islam, feminism) and a practical orientation to moral decision-making and leadership.
