Ce mémoire de maîtrise se joint aux oeuvres produites au cours de l'année deux mille dix-neuf, dans le cadre de l'exposition Nyx, don't be afraid, présentée à la galerie l'OEuvre de l'Autre à Chicoutimi, du 23 Octobre au 6 Novembre 2019. Il partage des réflexions et questionnements à propos de l'utilisation de la lumière en tant que médium autonome en art contemporain. Plus précisément est abordée la question du potentiel narratif de la lumière. Tout d'abord en tant que telle, dans la "nature", la vie courante, comment appréhende-t-on la lumière de manière générale ? Après une analyse et un bref rappel de l'histoire de la lumière en tant que technologie et son rapport à l'humain, nous voyons comment les artistes se sont emparés de ce nouvel outil. La relation de l'artiste avec la lumière, que ce soit au dix-septième siècle ou au vingt et unième ne cesse d'évoluer en même temps qu'évolue la technologie. Un premier chapitre aborde la genèse de cette recherche, tant dans ma pratique, que dans les concepts. Puis une nuance est faite entre l'usage de la lumière dans les arts plus "traditionnels" (peinture, sculpture etc.) et l'art contemporain où certaines pratiques sont plus éclatées. Ainsi l'on commence à voir ce que les artistes ont cherché à montrer, raconter, représenter, avec la lumière. Le deuxième chapitre se concentre sur quelques artistes dont la pratique est plus ou moins proche de la mienne, ou qui ont une manière d'appréhender ce médium que je trouve particulièrement intéressante. Enfin, le concept d'errance, à la fois comme méthode de création et dans l'oeuvre, est explicité. D'autres artistes et penseurs ayant erré y sont présentés. Le troisième et dernier chapitre évoque les travaux antérieurs et démontre comment j'en suis arrivée à cette recherche-création. Une partie est consacrée à la définition du thème de la nuit, et à la pensée nuitale en général. La présentation du projet d'exposition et une conclusion clôture le bal. Entreprendre un travail sur la lumière en tant que médium autonome en art contemporain est risqué dans le sens où l'on pourrait aisément s'égarer. Pour cela j'ai resserré l'objet de ma recherche sur divers axes. Même si tous les artistes évoqués ne répondent pas à cette règle, la lumière dans l'installation immersive m'intéresse particulièrement. En effet, si cette recherche portait finalement sur la lumière en sculpture, les questionnements seraient différents. L'installation immersive offre un espace double puisqu'elle est à la fois celui du visiteur et de l'oeuvre. La question de l'immatérialité comme élément narratif nouveau est alors amenée. Comment le son et la lumière véhiculent des histoires ? Les travaux des dernières années et particulièrement ceux présentés dans Nyx, don't be afraid, cherchent à exprimer comment la lumière peut jouer sur nos perceptions, sur notre expérience immédiate. A partir d'archives personnelles et d'objets artificiels, j'ai cherché à recréer des environnements sensibles et poétiques, atemporels et où la lumière véhicule des tranches de vie.
