Les expressions idiomatiques et les locutions adverbiales donnent de la couleur et de la saveur à une langue. Elles représentent l'aspect le plus fascinant et enrichissant dans l'apprentissage d'une langue étrangère. Elles sont le reflet d'une manière de penser unique, propre à une communauté linguistique et c'est ce côté unique qui les rend difficiles à traduire d'une langue étrangère à l'autre. Traduites mot à mot dans une autre langue étrangère, elles risquent de perdre leur sens, car elles ont un rapport très étroit avec la culture véhiculée par la langue dont elles font partie. Il y a une forte corrélation entre langue et culture. Les expressions idiomatiques sont comme le miroir de pensée et de vie d'un peuple. Chaque langue exprime la réalité selon sa manière de voir les choses. Ce dictionnaire ne se veut pas exhaustif, loin de là. Il se limite aux expressions et locutions les plus courantes, encore utilisées dans le langage de tous les jours. Cette liste d'expressions n'existe qu'à titre de banque. Ce n'est pas un chapitre clos dans le développement des langues, nous sommes conscients que de nouvelles expressions naissent chaque jour, que ce soit chez les marins, les pilotes, les techniciens, les étudiants, les artisans. Les expressions idiomatiques et locutions gagnent à être utilisées stratégiquement , elles expriment un état d'esprit du locuteur qui, avec un minimum de mots, atteint un effet maximum. Les expressions et locutions contenues dans cet ouvrage peuvent être utilisées dans n'importe quel contexte ou milieu social sans risque de choquer l'interlocuteur. Le dictionnaire s'adresse aux lycéens, aux étudiants ainsi qu'aux adultes souhaitant aborder l'étude d'une langue étrangère sous un autre aspect et par là enrichir leurs connaissances du français, de l'anglais ou de l'allemand. The major purpose of newspaper headlines is to trigger the reader’s interest. A popular way to achieve this goal is the use of phraseological modifications. Based on previous findings from various linguistic disciplines, this book provides an interdisciplinary approach to shed light on the reception of substitutions like More than Meats the Eye. It develops an empirical methodology for investigating the complex cognitive processes involved, using a large sample of authentic examples for illustration.
