Zen And The Art Of Pickleball written by Mike Leigh and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022 with Pickleball (Game). categories.

Pickleball has lately become all the rage in America. Indeed, across the globe. Once a sport for older racquet sports enthusiasts who needed a slower version of their favorite sport. Now youngsters are picking up the game, playing in pro tournaments, making a good living from pickleball. And with the growing popularity of pickleball has come the need for lessons and clinics to teach the mechanics of the sport. I used to teach tennis but when I found pickleball about five years ago, I put away my tennis racquets and have used a pickleball paddle ever since. In my opinion, pickleball is a game of chess compared to tennis which is a game of checkers. Once you master the stroke mechanics of pickleball then the challenge is to master the mental game. That is where the fun begins. I have been a pickleball instructor now for three years. And I do focus on the mechanics of the game when I teach. But I go beyond that to teach the mental aspects of the game which separates the good players from the excellent players. I’ve been encouraged by many of my students to write a book that details some of these mental aspects of the game of pickleball. And when I play in tournaments or recreationally, I often get comments like ‘how can you be so calm on the court’ or ‘you make this game look effortless’. One of my partners complimented me in a recent tournament by saying ‘thanks for your Zen attitude on the court’. Thus, the inspiration for this book. If you can remain calm, remain focused, remain relaxed during a game of pickleball, you will find much success, both internally and externally, I think if you take the messages in this book to heart, you will also be happier and enjoy the game of pickleball more. In my opinion, pickleball can be a metaphor for life. A Zen approach to the challenges we face can allow us to face adversity with a sense of calm and focus that will make us much happier on our journey through life.

Geno written by Geno Auriemma and has been published by Grand Central Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-12-14 with Sports & Recreation categories.

Controversial, confrontational, and driven, Coach Geno Auriemma is a force to be reckoned with -- and the most accomplished male coach in women's basketball today. In his relentless quest for excellence at the University of Connecticut, he has led the Huskies to five national championships. Yet his soul never rests. For Auriemma, life affords only the briefest moments of happiness -- a good round of golf, forty minutes of great basketball, a day at the beach with his family, a nice glass of wine -- while disaster is seemingly always waiting to strike. It's a fatalistic philosophy, a remnant of his hardscrabble early years, but it's an outlook that has driven him to unparalleled success. In this deeply personal memoir, Geno Auriemma reveals for the first time the man behind the legend. He talks candidly about his coaching style, famed for being one of the most demanding in all the sports world. He spills the beans about his stormy dealings with other coaches such as his archrival, Pat Summitt, of the University of Tennessee. And with warmth and a genuine love for his champions, he writes openly about Diana Taurasi, Sue Bird, Nykesha Sales, Rebecca Lobo, Swin Cash, and all of his other UConn stars who have gone on to stellar WNBA careers. You get a courtside seat to all of the action -- including an epilogue on the 2004-05 season, as well as interviews with the team's most celebrated players. A rare look inside the soul of a true competitor, GENO is the story of how one passionate man overcame his own fears to achieve an extraordinary record of success.

The Practicing Mind written by Thomas M. Sterner and has been published by New World Library this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-04-12 with Self-Help categories.

In those times when we want to acquire a new skill or face a formidable challenge we hope to overcome, what we need most are patience, focus, and discipline, traits that seem elusive or difficult to maintain. In this enticing and practical book, Thomas Sterner demonstrates how to learn skills for any aspect of life, from golfing to business to parenting, by learning to love the process. Early life is all about trial-and-error practice. If we had given up in the face of failure, repetition, and difficulty, we would never have learned to walk or tie our shoes. So why, as adults, do we often give up on a goal when at first we don’t succeed? Modern life’s technological speed, habitual multitasking, and promises of instant gratification don’t help. But in his study of how we learn (prompted by his pursuit of disciplines such as music and golf), Sterner has found that we have also forgotten the principles of practice — the process of picking a goal and applying steady effort to reach it. The methods Sterner teaches show that practice done properly isn’t drudgery on the way to mastery but a fulfilling process in and of itself, one that builds discipline and clarity. By focusing on “process, not product,” you’ll learn to live in each moment, where you’ll find calmness and equanimity. This book will transform a sense of futility around learning something challenging into an attitude of pleasure and willingness.

A cult classic, from an era populated by the most colourful tennis players of all time, A Handful of Summers is an uninhibited account of adventures on the tennis circuits of the world. More about the hilarious escapades of players than the game itself, the book begins with a short series of vignettes from Forbes' childhood on a Cape farm, then takes the reader on a tennis tour - into locker rooms and restaurants, narrow streets and small hotels, and onwards to the lawns of Wimbledon and the caramel coloured clays of Roland Garros.

Strokes Of Genius written by L. Jon Wertheim and has been published by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-06-01 with Sports & Recreation categories.

The executive editor of Sports Illustrated offers an in-depth analysis and behind-the-scenes look at the historic 2008 match between tennis titans. In the 2008 Wimbledon men’s final, Centre Court was a stage set worthy of Shakespearean drama. Five-time champion Roger Federer was on track to take his rightful place as the most dominant player in the history of the game. He just needed to cling to his trajectory. So, in the last few moments of daylight, Centre Court witnessed a coronation. Only it wasn’t a crowning for the Swiss heir apparent but for a swashbuckling Spaniard. Twenty-two-year-old Rafael Nadal prevailed, in five sets, in what was, according to the author, “essentially a four-hour, forty-eight-minute infomercial for everything that is right about tennis—a festival of skill, accuracy, grace, strength, speed, endurance, determination, and sportsmanship.” It was also the encapsulation of a fascinating rivalry, hard fought and of historic proportions. In the tradition of John McPhee’s classic Levels of the Game, Strokes of Genius deconstructs this defining moment in sport, using that match as the backbone of a provocative, thoughtful, and entertaining look at the science, art, psychology, technology, strategy, and personality that go into a single tennis match. With vivid, intimate detail, Wertheim re-creates this epic battle in a book that is both a study of the mechanics and art of the game and the portrait of a rivalry as dramatic as that of Ali–Frazier, Palmer–Nicklaus, and McEnroe–Borg. “Deftly touches on all the defining factors of contemporary tennis.” —San Francisco Chronicle “Illuminates a kingdom changing hands. An engrossing book.” —Bud Collins
