Mayor, and authority is given them in all matters pertaining to the health of the city One of its most important duties is the quarantine, the rules regarding which are very strict. Physicians are required to report all cases of infectious or contagious diseases. The general health of Charleston is excellent among the whites, as is shown in the yearly reports of the Board: while the mortality among the colored races is much higher, as it is in all Southern cities. Charleston, South Carolina, today enjoys a reputation as a destination city for cultural and heritage tourism. In A Golden Haze of Memory, Stephanie E.
