O espaço público de tomada de decisões é uma esfera de poder associada à figura masculina, como se fosse uma atribuição inerente à sua natureza. Em contrapartida, as mulheres são direcionadas para as atividades relacionadas ao cuidado, como a administração doméstica, por serem consideradas "mais adequadas" à vida privada. Desafiando essa estrutura, as mulheres norte rio-grandenses formaram lideranças políticas e requisitaram o direito ao alistamento eleitoral. Tal possibilidade veio por meio da alteração no texto da Constituição Estadual do Rio Grande do Norte, no ano de 1927, retirando a distinção entre os sexos para o acesso aos direitos políticos, possibilitando no ano subsequente, 1928, a eleição de diversas mulheres distribuídas em várias regiões do estado. Desde então, essas e as seguintes emergiram na política potiguar, dinâmica essa que é observada até hoje por meio das novas mulheres que ingressam nas esferas de tomada de decisão do estado. Como discussão principal, percebe-se que, atualmente, as mulheres potiguares continuam sendo protagonistas no acesso ao espaço de tomada de decisão, embora necessitem de um maior financiamento de campanha em comparação com os homens. Além disso, observa-se uma maior expressividade em eleições locais, como ocorre com o cargo de vereadora, visto que, devido à dimensão do cargo, é possível que a candidata administre sua campanha de forma mais eficaz, o que, por consequência, pode resultar em um maior sucesso eleitoral.

At the end of World War II, several Latin American countries seemed to be ready for industrialization and self-sustaining economic growth. Instead, they found that they had exchanged old forms of political and economic dependence for a new kind of dependency on the international capitalism of multinational corporations. In the much-acclaimed original Spanish edition (Dependencia y Desarrollo en América Latina) and now in the expanded and revised English version, Cardoso and Faletto offer a sophisticated analysis of the economic development of Latin America. The economic dependency of Latin America stems not merely from the domination of the world market over internal national and "enclave" economies, but also from the much more complex interact ion of economic drives, political structures, social movements, and historically conditioned alliances.
