The second ebook novella in the brand new Roman pirate series by Sunday Times bestselling authors Simon Scarrow and T. J. Andrews. AD 25, the Adriaticum. Pirate ships hunt merchantmen across the stormy waters of the vast seas. But their control of these waters is threatened by the actions of a callous Roman commander... Ship's boy Telemachus has left behind grinding poverty in the Piraeus to join the crew of the merchant ship Selene. Only recently a scrawny youth, he has become a strong and skilled seafarer after weeks of hardship at sea. Now he has fallen into the hands of pirates: brutal men, who take pleasure in vicious acts against their victims and, sometimes, each other. As a pirate recruit under Captain Bulla, Telemachus faces cruel initiation rites and the dangerous enmity of the ship's ambitious first mate. He takes heart from the goal that drives him: of amassing the fortune he needs to rescue his older brother from slavery. But the men of Bulla's Poseidon's Trident face many dangers: Prefect Canis, commander of the Ravenna fleet, has them in his sights, while rival pirate gangs hunt the same seas. Telemachus quickly learns that fate, as much as courage or cunning, will decide his future . . . Episode two in the PIRATA ebook novella series.

Fermin Antonio Mundaca y Marecheaga was born in Spain in 1825 and became a wealthy man as a result of his involvement in shipping, but mostly from the slave trade. That is the reason for his reputation as a pirate. Mundaca actually existed. This book is historical fiction with roots in true events and research of the vessels, the weaponry, the equipment, sailing skills, and the impact of world commerce, including slavery, during that era. The majority of the narrative is based on actual events. The book follows the life of Mundaca from his boyhood and early enlistment in the Spanish Navy, his travels around the world, to his death in Mexico and the resultant legend on Isla Mujeres, an island off the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico, in the State of Quintana Roo, where the legend continues.

Noun Noun Compounds In Italian written by Radimský Jan and has been published by University of South Bohemia this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-12-28 with Italian language categories.

This book investigates one concrete compounding pattern in present-day Italian within a larger overview of Italian compounding. Various accounts and classifications of Noun + Noun combinations in Italian are reviewed, with special focus on the status of the lexical integrity hypothesis. The author sets out to propose an integrated approach to the Noun + Noun compounding pattern, rigorously based on large representative data sets that were extracted from the Italian web corpus ItWaC as both automatically and manually post-processed frequency lists. On the basis of such data, it is aimed to show the behaviour of various subtypes of Noun + Noun compounds. Starting out with the Bisetto-Scalise classification, the author carefully examines the status of coordinate compounds, ATAP compounds (i.e., the group comprising attributive and appositive structures) and subordinate compounds (comprising verbal-nexus and grounding compounds), discussing both theoretical and empirical implications of this classification scheme. Moreover, the original Bisetto-Scalise model is supplemented with further classification levels in order to capture specific compounding types such as relational (i.e. inherently trinominal) compounds. A major merit of the present study lies in the quantitative dimension of the data it deals with. In light of this data, the author emphasizes the gradient nature of the traditional dichotomy between syntax and compounding. The book will thus appeal not only to the linguists interested specifically in Italian word-formation, but also to a larger community of scholars who seek a more general view of the word-formation phenomena.

From 21-Jump Street writer and series creator Patrick Hasburgh, a part thriller, part family novel about an ex-pat American living and surfing in Mexico, the family he loves, and the murder he witnesses, in the vein of Don Winslow’s The Dawn Patrol. “It’s rare to find a novel that’s so harrowing, funny and touching at the same time, but Patrick Hasburgh somehow pulls it off. His surf-bum narrator is a new classic—think of Philip Marlowe, on a longboard.” —Carl Hiaasen, New York Times bestselling author of Razor Girl “Fueled by equal parts humor and suspense, Pirata makes for a fast and satisfying read.” — Kem Nunn, author of National Book Award Finalist Tapping the Source "Going straight at the stuff that scares you is good advice. I just didn’t have the courage to do it…”—Nick Lutz In a former life, Nick Lutz, sold cars in the Golden State. He had a wife and a young son, and they struggled along until Nick was shot in the head when a potential customer hijacked the car he was demonstrating. The incident sets off a bad-luck domino fall, and he loses an eye, his job, his family, and, eventually, his self-respect. With nothing left, Nick heads for Mexico, where he sheds his former self among an eclectic group of expats and locals, who fondly name him “Pirata” on account of his eye patch. There on the beaches of Sabanita, Nick and his buddy Winsor drink, surf, and—most of all—escape, buoyed away from their pasts on south swells and Tecate. Nothing epic. That is until Winsor’s girlfriend, Meagan, ends their abusive relationship and flees with her two boys to the safety and solace of Nick’s beachside casita. A monsoon season fling of convenience turns into a torrid love affair as new loyalties and dark secrets are shaped into something like a family. But when the local policía struggle to identify a body that has washed up in the surf, Nick realizes his secrets—and sins—have caught up with him. And there are dangerous new surprises that have yet to roll in with the tide. . . . A gifted storyteller, Hasburgh drops readers into the middle of a gripping, heartwarming, viscerally compelling page turner. At once tender and deadly hysterical, Pirata is a novel readers won’t soon forget.
