La sabiduría del mundo se nos ha vuelto invisible. Hoy debemos volver a pensarla de nuevo. Brague va trazando el panorama grandioso de las respuestas antiguas a la cuestión filosófica por excelencia: ¿cómo alcanzar la sabiduría? Su tesis es que todas las respuestas se conciben en relación a una idea que se nos ha vuelto lejana: la idea de cosmos, es decir, de un orden inmutable del universo. Llegar a ser sabio no significa otra cosa, para los antiguos, que observar ese orden e imitar esa sabiduría que es la del mismo mundo. La sabiduría del mundo es el primer título de una ambiciosa trilogía. El segundo volumen afronta el modo en el que el pensamiento se ha representado históricamente la ley divina (La loi de Dieu), y el tercero (aún sin publicar) tratará las maneras en las que el hombre ha buscado históricamente emanciparse de la naturaleza y de Dios.
