Leur action ne fut pas très spectaculaire et ils ne laissèrent pas de sillages sanglants derrière eux. Mais ils ont crevé de chaud dans les plaines ou de froid dans les montagnes. Ils connurent la peur lors des marches de nuit et la soif sur les pistes. Les bouclages, les ratissages et les embuscades furent leur lot. Ils ont crapahuté dans les oueds et sur les crêtes. Ils subirent des pertes et remportèrent des victoires. Ils ont eu quelques joies et beaucoup de peines. C’est leur boulot, quasi au quotidien, qui est décrit dans ces pages.
