Platonopoli è una città ideale di filosofi, governata secondo le leggi di Platone, che doveva sorgere in Campania, probabilmente vicino all’antica Vescia tra Napoli e Gaeta. Il progetto di questa città fu proposto dal filosofo neoplatonico Plotino (205 – 270 d.C.), come ricorda il suo discepolo Porfirio nel suo scritto “La vita di Plotino”. In questo saggio verranno raccolte le poche testimonianze e commenti relativi alla mancata fondazione di Platonopoli, quali erano le leggi di Platone, ma anche le notizie delle altre città ideali, alcune forse realizzate nella remota antichità, altre invece pensate e proposte senza mai essere costruite. Verranno ricordate Atlantide, Adocentyn ed Eliopoli dell’antico Egitto, la Repubblica di Platone, la città del sole di Tommaso Campanella, ecc… Una città dei filosofi governata secondo le leggi suggerite da Platone potrebbe essere una proposta seria da prendere in considerazione oggi ?
