Mother Earth is undergoing an environmental upheaval never seen before. The unprecedented number of people bearing down on earth have greatly affected the environment of the planet. Whether we are rich or poor, developed or underdeveloped nations, we are all together for better or for worse for the health of this planet. Of all the problems besieging the planet, the rampant deforestation is probably the single most important problem we face today. The ecological problems directly and indirectly connected with deforestation are numerous and require immediate remedies. Global warming and loss of biodiversity are two problems of universal ramification for mankind that need to be resolved if mankind is to continue to exist for the next thousand years. After air, water, and food, trees are the most important natural resources that mankind need. It is also one of the most important renewable resources that will serve mankind for eons if we only learn to respect the role they play in our lives. Since men first walked on the planet, he was surrounded by trees with all their food and wildlife for his benefit. For centuries, it has provided mankind with all the survival kits necessary for him to survive the harsh climate. With so much of our forests lost to human needs and greed, it is necessary for us to change the way we look at the trees. In this book, I have tried to set down the many causes of deforestation and howto minimize the problems. The first part of the book from Chapters 1 to 10 have to do with the importance of the forests relative to our existence. As much as possible examples of the numerous causes are cited and from time to time, a solution is suggested. The second part from Chapters 11 to 19 has to do mainly with the many uses of trees and forest products and the ways and means of I reducing deforestation and improving the forest stands for the future. The concluding chapter 20 is used to summarize in a nutshell all the suggested things we can and should do if we are going the protect the environ- ment we have borrowed from those who will inherit from us.

Despite the very best conservation and environmental policy-making efforts, at least 80,000 acres of tropical rainforest disappear each day. If action is not taken now, experts estimate that the world's rainforests will mostly disappear within 50 years. Currently, the destruction of tropical forests is responsible for 17 percent of man made carbon emissions-more than what comes from all the world's cars, airplanes and ships combined! Tropical rainforests need our help-and that's where 50 Simple Steps to Save the World's Rainforests comes in. The future of the world's rainforests lies to a large extent in the collective hands of consumers and how they shop, since demand is what fuels the forces driving deforestation-agriculture, logging, and resources extraction. Through the 50-step journey, you will learn how, as a consumer, you may unwittingly support rainforest destruction and more importantly, precisely how you can make different choices that help save rainforests. For example, you will learn how your paper use and purchases of rayon clothing affects Indonesian rainforests where Sumatran tigers are critically endangered or how simply eating Brazil nuts helps save the Amazon rainforest. You will discover how the cultivation of palm oil, a common ingredient in confections, baked goods, soaps and biofuels, is fueling rampant deforestation in Malaysia, Indonesia and Papua New Guinea and how you can avoid it. You will also learn about how closely connected you are to the rainforest in your daily living. 50 Simple Steps to Save the Rainforests is the ultimate primer for anyone wanting to take action to help save this ecosystem, which is so critical to the future of mankind.

The Power Of Trees written by Peter Wohlleben and has been published by Greystone Books Ltd this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-05-02 with Nature categories.

"Another love letter from Wohlleben to the green world... makes the case for how we should allow forests throughout the world to regrow and in the process help heal not only the climate but us, as well."—Lydia Millet, Oprah Daily An illuminating manifesto on ancient forests: how they adapt to climate change by passing their wisdom through generations, and why our future lies in protecting them. In his beloved book The Hidden Life of Trees, Peter Wohlleben revealed astonishing discoveries about the social networks of trees and how they communicate. Now, in The Power of Trees, he turns to their future, with a searing critique of forestry management, tree planting, and the exploitation of old growth forests. As human-caused climate change devastates the planet, forests play a critical role in keeping it habitable. While politicians and business leaders would have us believe that cutting down forests can be offset by mass tree planting, Wohlleben offers a warning: many tree planting campaigns lead to ecological disaster. Not only are these trees more susceptible to disease, flooding, fires, and landslides, we need to understand that forests are more than simply a collection of trees. Instead, they are ecosystems that consist of thousands of species, from animals to fungi and bacteria. The way to save trees, and ourselves? Step aside and let forests—which are naturally better equipped to face environmental challenges—heal themselves. With the warmth and wonder familiar to readers from his previous books, Wohlleben also shares emerging scientific research about how forests shape climates both locally and across continents; that trees adapt to changing environmental conditions through passing knowledge down to their offspring; and how old growth may in fact have the most survival strategies for climate change. At the heart of The Power of Trees lies Wohlleben's passionate plea: that our survival is dependent on trusting ancient forests, and allowing them to thrive.
