Interactividad y Redes Sociales…y se preguntará el lector ¿Qué tiene que ver un bote de marfil, con esto de la Interactividad y las redes sociales?, o lo que es lo mismo, con el título de nuestro libro. En apariencia poco, pero en realidad mucho…Paciencia. El bote de Jalaf, una de las joyas del arte de la eboraria califal, realizado durante el califato del Al Hakam II, está incluido dentro del grupo de los denominados botes “parlantes”, por la inscripción que presenta. Sobra decir, que fue realizado por los mejores, utilizando un material casi tan noble como el propio oro o la plata. Sea cual sea la época de la historia en la que nos encontremos, el hombre ha tenido la necesidad de dejar por escrito determinados mensajes para legarlos a la posterioridad. En cierta manera esto es lo que encontramos en el bote Jalaf, un mensaje fijado en un soporte cuyo objetivo era poner de manifiesto una determinada realidad, que cobraría todo el sentido a los ojos del espectador. Decir que era “interactivo”, podría hacer que algunos clamaran al cielo, pero en un concepto simple del término, el bote, caro, por cierto, estaba pensado para contener productos lujosos, y en cierta manera para poder tocarlo e interactuar con él. Sólo apuntaremos que el califa solía regalarle estas singulares piezas parlantes a su amada, y que en algunos de los ejemplares conservados, hay verdaderas intenciones de amor, pero eso es otra historia… pero también mensajes fijados sobre un soporte que nos hablando de realidades pretéritas. Por si alguien no lo ha pillado todavía, nosotros, de una manera mucho más modesta, queremos contar una historia, no tan bella, ni erótica, “como el firme pecho de una delicada doncella”, pero si contarla y hacer que el lector interactúe con nosotros. Somos hijos de nuestro tiempo, y si bien románticos empedernidos, nos gustaría por regalarle uno de esos botecitos a nuestros amores, nuestros derroteros van por otros medios. ...

This book compares the theatrical cultures of early modern England and Spain and explores the causes and consequences not just of the remarkable similarities but also of the visible differences between them. An exercise in multi-focal theatre history research, it deploys a wide range of perspectives and evidence with which to recreate the theatrical landscapes of these two countries and thus better understand how the specific conditions of performance actively contributed to the development of each country’s dramatic literature. This monograph develops an innovative comparative framework within which to explore the numerous similarities, as well as the notable differences, between early modern Europe’s two most prominent commercial theatre cultures. By highlighting the nuances and intricacies that make each theatrical culture unique while never losing sight of the fact that the two belong to the same broader cultural ecosystem, its dual focus should appeal to scholars and students of English and Spanish literature alike, as well as those interested in the broader history of European theatre. Learning from what one ‘playground’ – that is, the environment and circumstances out of which a dramatic tradition originates – reveals about the other will help solve not only the questions posed above but also others that still await examination. PRÓLOGO La obra que el lector tiene en sus manos constituye un magnífico exponente de lo que debe ser un libro de Historia. Conocí a su autor a finales de los años ochenta del siglo pasado, cuando ya mostraba una serie de cualidades que acabarían cristalizando en un brillante investigador. Desde un principio, José Luis mostró un gran interés por la historia social del derecho y de las instituciones, algo que –dicho sea de paso- no solía ser muy frecuente entre quienes cursaban la carrera de Historia; tras una brillante tesis de licenciatura de más de 300 páginas, esto es, las que hoy en día tiene una tesis doctoral, me propuso arrostrar un desafío mayor, estudiar las características y singladura de la institución real que atendía a los asuntos de justicia, gobierno y policía en la corte de Madrid, cuyo edificio, también conocido como Cárcel de Corte, alberga hoy en día la sede del ministerio de Asuntos Exteriores: el palacio de Santa Cruz.
