International institutions and agencies from the Global North are no longer the sole initiators of development norms and best practices. The proliferation of exports and imports of social, economic and policy management models have called for a rethinking of South-South relations. To date, most studies have focused on the drivers and strategies of international initiatives made by emerging powers; none have analysed the impact of these initiatives on the receiving country’s institutions, and on the structures of international organisations. In this book, Carolina Milhorance examines the content, process and consequences of the internationalisation of Brazil’s rural public policy instruments. Brazil earned wide international recognition in the early 2000s for its agricultural modernization and social policies; its increasing influence illustrated the specific political interests of coalitions that are embedded in domestic and international struggles. Drawing on extensive field research -- including more than 280 interviews -- conducted in Brazil, Mozambique, South Africa, Malawi, France and Italy, Milhorance analyses the effects of the internationalisation of Brazilian policy solutions on national and local political systems in recipient countries, highlighting specifically the case of Mozambique. Relying on a new theoretical approach to International Relations -- one based on public policy analysis and international political sociology -- she moves beyond a debate about conventional notions of international power. New Geographies of Global Policy-Making will be interest to scholars and researchers of international relations, public policy analysis, political sociology, comparative politics, and Latin American studies.

A constante preocupação com a geração de riquezas, vem sobrepondo-se ao desenvolvimento de facto. Um aumento no desenvolvimento deve ser acompanhado de uma queda na concentração de renda da população. Entretanto, nem sempre ocorre desta maneira. Um aumento na geração de riquezas pode promover um aumento do desenvolvimento, porém, não necessariamente significará uma redução da desigualdade social. Com base no fomento do investimento privado como estratégia para redução da desigualdade social da Lunda Sul que apresentamos a presente pesquisa. Vemos um crescente número de mortes de crianças em tenra idade, uma população totalmente desfavorecida vivendo em situação de extrema pobreza, um acentuado número de desemprego, etc. Diante do contexto exposto, este trabalho pretende resolver o seguinte problema científico: como contribuir na redução da incidência da desigualdade social na província da Lunda-Sul? Neste sentido o objeto de estudo abordado no livro é analisar o contributo do fomento do investimento privado na redução da desigualdade social em Angola no geral e na província da Lunda Sul em particular. Esta obra está composta por uma Introdução, quatro capítulos, uma conclusão e sugestões. O primeiro capítulo é constituído pela fundamentação teórica, o segundo capítulo trata da metodologia, o terceiro capítulo trata da caracterização de Angola ciclo de programa de governação, medição das incidências e sistema de planeamento Angolano, caracterização da Lunda Sul, apresentação dos resultados analise SWOT e quarto capítulo trata da apresentação de propostas de fomento do investimento privado e inclusão social e conclusão. Espera-se com esta obra, primeiramente suprir a lacuna de estudos académicos científicos sobre redução das desigualdades em Angola e particularmente na Lunda Sul. Ademais, iniciar uma tradição de estudos sobre as dimensões do desenvolvimento sustentável, que tanto pode ser uma especialidade na área económica, ambiental e também na área Social. A sensitive ethnography of former Mozambican National Resistance (RENAMO) combatants After sixteen years of civil war (1976—1992) between the Mozambican National Resistance (RENAMO) and the government of Mozambique, over 90,000 former combatants were disarmed and demobilized by a United Nations-led program. Former combatants were to find their ways as civilians again, assisted by community-based reintegration rituals. While the process was often presented as a success story of peace, renewed armed conflict involving RENAMO combatants in 2013 and onward suggests that the reintegration of former guerrillas was a far more complex story. In Former Guerrillas in Mozambique, Nikkie Wiegink describes the trajectories of former RENAMO combatants in Maringue, a rural district in central Mozambique. Rather than focus on violence, trauma, and the reacceptance of these ex-combatants by the community, Wiegink emphasizes the ways in which RENAMO veterans have navigated unstable and sometimes dangerous social and political environments during and after the war. She examines the experiences of both male and female war veterans and their attempts at securing a tolerable life. Based on fourteen months of fieldwork conducted long after the war ended, Former Guerrillas in Mozambique offers a critique of a notion of reintegration that assumes that the lives of former combatants are shaped first by a break with society when joining the armed group and later by a break with the past when demobilizing and a return to a status quo. Wiegink argues, instead, that former combatants' motivations, experiences, and interactions are not necessarily characterized by a rigid separation from their RENAMO past, but rather comprise a mixture of ruptures and continuities of relationships and networks, including families, the spiritual world, fellow former combatants, political parties, and the state.
