El estudio de la pobreza ha sido abordado desde diferentes disciplinas, no obstante, ni el problema de su distribucion espacial ni el analisis de sus variaciones ha tenido un interes significativo en las ciencias sociales. El principal aporte de este trabajo se relaciona con dicho aspecto del problema en el territorio del Norte Grande Argentino. Los conocimientos logrados mas importantes podrian clasificarse en cuatro grandes lineas: A) la distribucion espacial de la pobreza no presento mayores modificaciones, la estabilidad fue el comportamiento dominante. B) El predominio de poblaciones aborigenes y campesinas estaria relacionado con los grandes residuos o relictos -en terminos de Bauman- de la marcha del progreso en el Norte Argentino. C) Las similitudes entre los nucleos duros solo se manifiestan en la concentracion de miseria; los procesos territoriales, las sociedades que habitan dichos territorios y sus pautas culturales difieren sustancialmente. D) Pudo observarse tambien que la miseria no es inocua, mata y enferma. Los pronosticos no son alentadores, el problema mostro crecimiento durante la decada y tendio a profundizarse."

Es prioritario continuar revisando el problema social de la pobreza infantil en sus propuestas conceptuales (definiciones) y metodológicas de medición porque persisten relevantes desafíos de construcción de conocimiento específico sobre esta categoría social que es la infancia en situación de pobreza, pero también de comparabilidad de las mediciones en el tiempo y entre diferentes dominios. También, es preminente ampliar el diagnóstico de la pobreza infantil a diferentes disciplinas para que el diseño de políticas públicas y los criterios de elegibilidad de las poblaciones participantes de los programas sociales no se realicen siguiendo solamente criterios basados en aspectos laborales y del ingreso laboral de los adultos. La gravedad de la pobreza infantil en el país y la prevención de la pobreza infantil requieren de un sistema de protección social de la infancia y adolescencia que no esté sujeto a las vicisitudes del mercado sino que recupere la misión pública del sistema de protección social y tenga como horizonte el bien común y la igualdad de oportunidades.
