All the poems between My Momma Did Say I Would Meet A Girl Like You and Untitled are observations, reminiscences, and insights stories within a story. Using the river motif and oral tradition in Untitled the poet underscores certain thematic and analogous paradigms within a socio-cultural, geo-political landscape. This landscape is America. Why America? Well, Long Creek runs from the back of our house into the Roaring River. Moreover, all the diverse rivers of the world run into the great rivers of America. Similarly, peoples from across the globe stream into America the land of opportunity. America then, has become an inter-cultural, intracultural dynamic; framework a cauldron that brews an alchemy of ideas that is characteristic of a renewed people called Americans. Many of the poems, their titles and the images within them, find a connection, a culmination even, in the last poem of this collection, the revelation Untitled.

By giving Clodia - the 'Lesbia' of Catullus's famous love poetry - her own first-person narration, Anna Jackson upends and reinvigorates the beloved classical sequence with biting wit and tender attention. The photographer in the second sequence reads, writes, gives presents and considers the art of portraiture. But who is examining, and who is being examined? Above all else, Anna Jackson takes us within and without a range of characters in her characteristically witty style.

In this collection of memoir poems, James C. Morehead (Poet Laureate of Dublin, California) brings universal themes to life through journeys to the USSR and the mountains of Tuscany, the concert halls in San Francisco and a tiny town in Wyoming, the cables of Yosemite’s Half Dome and the beaches of Normandy. "In this second collection of poems, James Morehead's imagery is vivid, spare and elemental, and it is consistently chosen and arranged to achieve intensely poetic effects. The rhythmic control is impeccable. The centerpiece of this collection, a long series of poems that chronicle a trip through the former Soviet Union, is a fast moving, impressionistic feast of imagery. Sunglasses, denim shirts, vodka debauches, dollars, rubles, steely-eyed Russian authorities ever on the lookout for forbidden deals - all of it is transparent and engaging." - Carmine Di Biase, Distinguished Professor of English, Emeritus - Jacksonville State University

Seminar paper from the year 2009 in the subject English Language and Literature Studies - Literature, grade: 2,0, University of Kassel, language: English, abstract: In summary, in this paper the poem "Portrait of a Lady" written by T. S. Eliot has been placed in a beginning of the 20th century genre of portraiture in painting and regarded as a modern portrait. There is a remarkable similarity of techniques implied in Eliot's poem and used by modern portrait artists such as different media of expression, technique of deconstruc-tion, incomprehensible image and flatness. The poem represents a dual portrait of an elderly lady and her friend, the young narrator. Both figures are characterised by their dramatic monologues from different perspectives. A great deal of the impressive effect of the poem is achieved through dramatic verse that exactly express the tones of the lady's speech. The free verse and effects of rhythm help to provide this impression. The technique of disembodiment and fragmentation used by Eliot shows certain similarities to cubist portrait artists who broke the portrayed subject up and re-assembled it in a new form. Furthermore, "Portrait of a Lady" provides a shifting succession of thoughts, consciousness, protean in its variety of music and tone and depicts the figures' internal drama without creating a comprehensible image of their appearance. In addition, the lady imitates in her speech Arnold and expresses her feelings through quotations and, therefore, is mentally absent, though she eliminates the narrator's consciousness of himself as facing her. However, the observer registers the look of absorption which dominates the imaginary face of the lady. This effect of flatness is directly connected with modern portrait painters such as douard Manet. Therefore, it can be concluded that Eliot's "Portrait of a Lady" is a notable example of the modern portrait in poetry.
