Traducción y prólogo de Carlos Ortega. Robert Walser nació en Biel (Suiza), en 1878, y durante su vida recorrió muchas ciudades suizas trabajando como criado, escribiente y recadero. Tras una temporada en Berlín, donde sólo ejerció el oficio de escritor, regresó a Biel, y fínalmente a Berna. El día de Navidad de 1956 lo encontraron muerto en la nieve, no lejos del manicomio de Herisau, donde había pasado los últimos veintitrés años de su vida. El presente volumen reúne una colección de Poemas (1909), que constituye su primera publicación del género, y Blancanieves (1902), uno de los cuatro dramas en verso o poemas dramatizados que escribió. Se trata de sus obras líricas más tempranas, pero presentan ya cuajadas todas las características de las novelas (Los hermanos Tanner, El ayudante, Jakob von Gunten, Der Räuber) y las prosas breves que le han hecho un autor conocido y apreciado. Carlos Ortega nació en Valladolid, en 1957, y es también poeta (Cruciare semetipsum Recuentos, La lengua blanda). Ha traducido, entre otros, a Paul Celan, Hugo von Hofmannsthal, Jean-Jacques Rousseau y Simone Weil.
