Included herein are four collections of my poems I put together, including those in the publication of Poems and Visions in 1968. None of the “visions” from that collection is included; each is poetry in some broad sense but not poems, lacking the intransitive and self-limiting nature I take my trials at writing poems to attempt achieving. Though I compiled the second of the included collections, Successes and Failures, in 1989, it includes a number of poems completed prior to those in Poems and Visions, the oldest of which and still one of my favorites having been written in 1950. The third collection, entitled simply Five, contains poems written between 1993 and 2004. The fourth collection Riding the Moons contains poems written in the seven years prior to 2009, some of which are found in one or other of the six volumes of the Ysstrhm series. Life through My Glasses, a new collection of poems by Herbert Siegel, combines two additional art forms for added dimension and meaning, resulting in a unique approach, more functional than poetic icons of earlier eras. This, his fourth collection, presents a contemporaneously written continuum of life ensconced in many forms of poetry, including universal observations of nature, ancient storytellers, gastronomy, and biographies - usually ending with a touch of sardonic humor. "Siegel's book contains poetry written in various formats. He experiments with the Japanese haiku, senryu, and tanka and masterfully constructs a triptych with the title piece in the collection. The bulk of his work, though, is in the style of rhymed verse popularized by poets such as Edgar Guest...True to the definition of a poet laureate, he is also unafraid to comment on current events and political figures in his verse. Yet like most accomplished poets he is a keen observer of the natural world and prone to introspection and philosophy. It is evident that some of the pieces in this collection were written merely to amuse the author and his readers, but a few such as "Pay Me No Mind border on the sublime." ---The US Review of Books "Life Through My Glasses" is a winner of the coveted GOLD SEAL AWARD OF LITERARY EXCELLENCE. ---Trafford Publishing "Life through My Glasses is beautiful an intriguing form combining poems in an unusual shape, comparing life and nature nature and resurrection life immortal. I cannot add or take away from this masterpiece." ---Yvonne Byrd, 2006 Senior Poet Laureate of Texas "Life through My Glasses reads beautifully, Herb. It's a grand finale for your book a masterpiece." ---Dr. Kim Gorman, University of Kentucky, University of Houston "I have to say I feel enriched and inspired having read through your work. Thank you so much!" ---Andrea Strudensky, DLitt, Faculty, Vanier College, Montreal, Quebec Herbert Siegel, PhD, has been a CEO of major public companies and the recipient of numerous professional certifications, awards, and publications. He also holds degrees in business and international law. Previous collections include Poems From My Drawer (2007) and Poems For The Universe (2009). His recent awards, among others, include 2009 New York State Senior Poet Laureate; the Ellen La Forge Foundation Poetry Prize, published by Grolier of Cambridge; Sketchbook; the Voice of the Bards; and the 2010 Award of Excellence from the Poetry Institute of Canada.

American Poetry Since 1950 written by Eliot Weinberger and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1993 with Poetry categories.

Since Whitman and Dickinson, most of the major poetry in the United States has been written against the literary establishments and prevailing canons of taste, and often far from the cultural centers. This is the first anthology in many years to gather the work from this continuing tradition of innovators and outsiders, presenting poets and poems that are still excluded from the academic collections. Opening with the last poems of the Modernist masters Ezra Pound, William Carlos Williams, and H.D., the book follows through four generations of writers who have been the primary figures of the new poetries and poetics since 1950. With a historical afterword, complete bibliographies, and generous selections from each of the thirty-five poets, this anthology is the only available introduction to the poets connected with such groups and movements as the Objectivists, the Beats, Black Mountain, the New York School, the San Francisco Renaissance, and ethnopoetics. American Poetry Since 1950 is a new map of the territory, an array of known and unknown contemporary classics. It is full of strange texts and startling procedures, histories and natural histories, high lyricism and extended meditations - extraordinary works that challenge our notions of what a poem ought to be.

A powerful new volume from the National Book Award finalist that demonstrates how the lyric is essentially elegiac. Whether addressing the deaths of friends and other poets or celebrating the closing of the day and the autumn of the seasons, Against Sunset reveals Stanley Plumly at his most personal and intimate. As much an homage to the rich tradition of the Romantics as it is a meditation on memory itself, these poems live at the edges of disappearances. From “Against Sunset” The horizon, halfway disappeared between above and below— night falls too or does it also rise out of the death-glitter of water? And if night is the long straight path of the full moon pouring down on the face of the deep, what makes us wish we could walk there, like a flat skipped stone?

Since I continually revise all my attempts at crafting poems, I decided to try the experiment of recording all of my revisions of each poem in a limited series as I wrote them down day to day until I came to a point where I fund myself with a version I either could live with or couldnt. The final versions of the sixteen poems I found acceptable begin this collection. Appended are selections of interim and discarded versions of eleven of these poems, together with a repetition of the final version up to now. Although a labor of love never adds to the value or importance of its product, which must stand on its own feet, it nonetheless owns the glory of its passion.
