In 2000, the author went on a trip around our planet collecting poetry from the people he met. "A Poem Around A World. Part 1" is a travel log infused with the responses to a request for "anything profound and sincere you care to share" that the author used to communicate with the people he met. Started as a concept inspired by Renga's (Linked Verses) Poetry of Japan, infused with a Russian Revolutionary spirit that has been losing its struggle for freedom since the fall of the last Russian republic of Novgorod in 1478 but is still fighting despite the overwhelming odds against it, and an American assertiveness of a vision, be it a "shining city on a hill" or a big White Whale, the project intends to be a snapshot of the state of being of our planet in the year 2000, a year lost between the millenniums. The poems are different, some can hardly be even called poems, being rather good luck wishes written in a book. Yet, some poems are quite exquisite and deep and can invoke an aesthetic pleasure in the careful reader. What is clear about the poems, is the fact that they have all been produced "from the heart." The lines landed on the pages of the book from the minds of the authors. From the last of the hippies in New Mexico to the rebellious members of the clergy in Pennsylvania, from the fishermen in Alaska to the students in Ohio, the book in some very amateur way took a snapshot of the state of affairs in the North American continent and presents it here as a homage to all who trusted the author. The word "amateur" is based on "love," the force that brought us all here and now. The unity and the struggle of opposites entangled forever in its lively and deadly creation and decaying into the dust lead to the synthesis. And a linked-verse tradition of Renga comes to you in this volume in old tattered blue jeans splattered with drops of blood from the collective heart of the contributors.
