Joaquim de Sousa Andrade, conhecido na Literatura Brasileira como “Sousândrade” (Guimarães, Maranhão, 09 de julho de 1832 a 21 de abril de1902 – São Luís) ficou por muitos anos esquecido, até que no início da década de sessenta torna-se “conhecido” graças ao trabalho dos poetas Augusto e Haroldo de Campos que “reeditam” e discutem sua obra. Suas liras (poesias sentimentais) são belas e podemos considerá-lo “modernista”, porque em seus poemas existem milhares de neologismos (palavras novas), inversões e muitas idéias originais. Cosmopolita, isto é, “viajante” na América, viveu um longo tempo nos Estados Unidos (Nova Iorque). Morreu pobre, esquecido e com fama de louco. Sua frase mais famosa: “Ouvi dizer já por duas vezes que o Guesa Errante será lido 50 anos depois; entristeci – decepção de quem escreve 50 anos antes”.
