THIS VOLUME contains a complete translation of Dōgen's collection of thirty-one-syllable Japanese poetry, or waka, along with a translation of a representative selection of his Chinese verse, or kanshi. Although Dōgen is generally considered to be more of a philosopher than a poet, his verse has great value for several reasons.
