This treasury is a collection of lyric poems and some of my college poetry, which I have written and put together in this simple book. The lyric poems are songs, which discuss all aspects of the American lifestyle. I have composed music for most of them even though all of it may not be written down. I start with ordinary social gatherings and expand into the joys and lulls of love and romance. I sing to the people of America and anyone else who will listen. I write about some different types of music that personify our culture. I try to give some cheer to the depressed and sing about growing up in Southern California. Sometimes it is just a song in passing about someone I have known or simply care about. This is my contribution to the American heritage. There is much more, and it would please me if you read on and learn about a softer side of life.

Giacomo Leopardi S Search For A Common Life Through Poetry written by Frank Rosengarten and has been published by Lexington Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-02-16 with Literary Criticism categories.

This book traces the life of Giacomo Leopardi by examining four different yet interrelated aspects: his social origins and class in relation to his evolving conception of nobility; the mixture of idealism and misogynism in his attitude toward women and in his conception of love; his poems and prose on the theme of Italian independence; and his philosophical materialism as expressed in his poetry, intellectual diary, and essays. Frank Rosengarten pays particular attention to the ways in which the thought of Arthur Schopenhauer and Friedrich Nietzsche illuminates Leopardi’s world view. He also devotes a section of the book to the different personal, moral, and philological components of Leopardi’s humanism. Throughout, he maintains a sharp focus on the connections between Leopardi’s life and the historical period in which he lived. The major themes and human concerns expressed in Leopardi’s writings relate to his life experiences and to the historical period in which he lived. Of central interest are nobility and love, since Leopardi’s perception of these two themes evolved and changed as he acquired a more general and universal conception of life. This fascinating combination of classical and modern perspectives on life and literature is highlighted throughout the book.

This book is a historical novel by the American classical scholar, Frank Frost Abbot. It deals with the lives of the Roman common people, their language and literature, their occupations and amusements, and with their social, political and economic conditions. We are interested in the common people of Rome because they made the Roman Empire what it was. They carried the Roman standards to the Euphrates and the Atlantic: they lived abroad as traders, farmer and soldiers to Romanize the provinces. Or they stayed at home, working in different professions to supply the needs of the capital.

Poetry And The People written by W. Kenneth Richmond and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-12-24 with Literary Criticism categories.

First published in 1947, Poetry and the People presents a survey of English poetry from the earliest times till 1940s, viewed from an unusual angle. It is the author’s thesis that English Poetry is unpopular, in the sense that it is not loved by the people, because the sources of its inspiration, which were originally drawn from the soil, were diverted during the Renaissance into aristocratic and academic channels. Nevertheless, the emerging traditions, though driven underground, survived in the work of such men as Burns, Hogg and Clare and in folk song. This book is a must read for scholars and researchers of English poetry and English literature.

Despite its extraordinary popularity and worldwide influence, the world of rap and hip hop is under constant attack. Impressions and interpretations of its meaning and power are perpetually being challenged. Somewhere someone is bemoaning the negative impact of rap music on contemporary culture. In In the Heart of the Beat: The Poetry of Rap, bestselling author and scholar Alexs Pate argues for a fresh understanding of rap as an example of powerful and effective poetry, rather than a negative cultural phenomenon. Pate articulates a way of "reading" rap that makes visible both its contemporary and historical literary values. He encourages the reader to step beyond the dominance of the beat and the raw language and come to an appreciation of rap's literary and poetic dimensions. What emerges is a vision of rap as an exemplary form of literary expression, rather than a profane and trendy musical genre. Pate focuses on works by several well-known artists to reveal in rap music, despite its penchant for vulgarity, a power and beauty that is the heart of great literature.
