This book brings small places to the main stage in an exploration of the nature of immigration in rural areas and small towns in Europe. Extending recent efforts to study migration at a sub-national scale, the authors focus their analysis on non-metropolitan areas to consider how globalisation and modernisation processes are experienced at a local level. Morén-Alegret and Wladyka weave themes of livelihood, social participation, justice and equity into human and planetary sustainability debates, drawing on quantitative population data as well as qualitative information on challenges for rural and small town sustainability in four different European countries (Portugal, France, Spain and England). Highlighting the interlinked relationship between rural sustainability, migration and ethnic diversity, this research is a valuable resource for policy-makers and academics alike, with far-reaching implications across geography, sociology, political science, anthropology and environmental sciences.

Since its development in 1949, radiocarbon dating has increasingly been used in prehistoric research in order to get a better grip on the chronology of sites, cultures and environmental changes. Refinement of the dating, sampling and calibration methods has continuously created new and challenging perspectives for absolute dating. In these proceedings the focus lies on the contribution of carbon-14 dates in current Mesolithic research in North-West Europe. Altogether 40 papers dealing with radiocarbon dates from 15 different countries are presented. Major themes are the typo-technological evolution of lithic and bone industries, changes in settlement patterns, burial practices, demography and subsistence, human impact on the Mesolithic environment and the neolithisation process. Some papers also deal with more methodological aspects of carbon-14 dating (e.g. calculation of various reservoir effects, the use of cumulative calibrated probability distributions), and related techniques (e.g. stable isotope analysis for palaeodiet reconstruction).

Bin Laden-funded terrorist cells dotted around France had been prepared to mount assaults calculated to cause mayhem, outrage and horror. Their targets were the United States Embassy in Paris, a nuclear power station (into which they planned to crash a civilian airliner in a chilling foretaste of later events) and the United States football team in their hotel. Finally, before a live television audience expected to number upwards of 300 million, Bin Laden's Algerian cohorts planned an audacious on-pitch assault against the stars of the England team during their first group match against Tunisia in Marseilles. Terror on the Pitch reveals startling documentation of the planning of these four horrific attacks and details an astonishing hit list, ordered by Al Qaeda's commander-in-chief, identifying which England players were to be singled out by his terrorists inside Stade-Vélodrome. Posing as stewards, the men would use grenades, handguns and TNT to attack the England team and fans. Had the plan succeeded, it would have surpassed the tragedy that befell the Israeli team at the 1972 Munich Olympics as the sporting world's worst-ever atrocity. Amazingly, this true story has remained largely unreported for four years and only now is the extent of the plot revealed - and how close the terrorists came to succeeding.

Toute Allure written by Karen Wheeler and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010 with British categories.

There is so much to look forward to in the months ahead - to lengthening evenings, bike rides past fields of sunflowers or wild meadows of bluebells and poppies (just like the seventies Flake ad) and several months of fetes, vide greniers (car boot sales) and barbecues in friends' gardens. And I cannot wait to get back to see if Andy Lawton has called... After reaching the heights as a successful fashion editor, Karen said goodbye to all that and set about renovating a run-down house in rural Poitou-Charentes, in central western France, and living a simpler life. Her idyll is almost complete when she is blissfully ensconced in her fully plumbed, tiled, floored and 'warm as the hug of a pashmina' Maison Coquelicot - until, that is, a gang of macho Portuguese builders, a procession of Brits behaving badly and the ghosts of boyfriends past begin to arrive on her doorstep. Karen soon finds her (dancing) feet in the small rural community when she discovers the key to acceptance is le danse country. And after a few shuffles and twirls she meets the love of her life - he has dark, shaggy hair, four paws and a wet nose...

Set on the Ile de Ré and the Poitou-Charentes, TOUT SWEET is a feel-good tale of a former newspaper fashion editor who hangs up her high heels to renovate a village house in France. In her mid-thirties the author had it all: a successful career as a fashion editor, handsome boyfriend, fab flat in west London and a gorgeous array of shoes. But when her significant other leaves, she wonders if there is more to life than a collection of great accessories. So, she hangs up her Manolos and waves goodbye to her city lifestyle, moving to France to renovate a run-down house in rural Poitou-Charentes, western France. There she encounters a host of new friends and unsuitable suitors, soon learning that true happiness can be found in the simplest of things – a bike ride through the countryside on a summer evening, or six glasses of pineau in a neighbour ’s garden. Perfect reading if you’ve ever dreamed of chucking away your BlackBerry in favour of real blackberrying and downshifting to a simpler life abroad.
