Les modèles socialistes et capitalistes sont dépassés. Notre système a besoin de transparence et de simplification pour être mieux perçu. Il est urgent de repenser les codes et les lois, réorganiser la fiscalité, dont l’iniquité pousse à la fraude, réinventer un nouveau mode de gouvernance des territoires plus réactif et proche des citoyens. Les français ont besoin d’un toit, d’un bon environnement, et d’un emploi pour leur épanouissement. Ces facteurs sont liés et l’absence de l’un entraîne un déséquilibre. La priorité est la lutte contre le chômage. Cette bataille pourra se gagner en rassurant les dirigeants des entreprises, sans léser leurs employés. Il nous faut trouver un nouveau « mode d’emplois » gagnant gagnant, oser repenser notre politique d’assistanat, en posant les bases d’une nouvelle politique « sociale libérale ». Un travail d’économiste, des données chiffrées, une remise en question des « polis tics » actuels ; des « uto-pistes » de réflexions sur les domaines notamment de l’emploi, de la formation et de l’aménagement du territoire, en préservant environnement et économie, pour tenter de résoudre les problèmes prioritaires des français.

Globalizing Race explores how intersections between French antisemitism and imperialism shaped the development of European racial thought. Ranging from the African misadventures of the antisemitic Marquis de Morès to the Parisian novels and newspapers of late nineteenth-century professional antisemites, Dorian Bell argues that France’s colonial expansion helped antisemitism take its modern, racializing form—and that, conversely, antisemitism influenced the elaboration of the imperial project itself. Globalizing Race radiates from France to place authors like Guy de Maupassant and Émile Zola into sustained relation with thinkers from across the ideological spectrum, including Hannah Arendt, Friedrich Nietzsche, Frantz Fanon, Karl Marx, Max Horkheimer, and Theodor Adorno. Engaging with what has been called the “spatial turn” in social theory, the book offers new tools for thinking about how racisms interact across space and time. Among these is what Bell calls racial scalarity. Race, Bell argues, did not just become globalized when European racism and antisemitism accompanied imperial penetration into the farthest reaches of the world. Rather, race became most thoroughly global as a method for constructing and negotiating the different scales (national, global, etc.) necessary for the development of imperial capitalism. As France, Europe, and the world confront a rising tide of Islamophobia, Globalizing Race also brings into fascinating focus how present-day French responses to Muslim antisemitism hark back to older, problematic modes of representing the European colonial periphery.

In De Gustibus Peter Kivy deals with a question that has never been fully addressed by philosophers of art: why do we argue about art? We argue about the 'facts' of the world either to influence people's behaviour or simply to get them to see what we take to be the truth about the world. We argue over ethical matters, if we are ethical 'realists, ' because we think we are arguing about 'facts' in the world. And we argue about ethics, if we are 'emotivists, ' or are now what are called 'expressionists, ' which is to say, people who think matters of ethics are simply matters of 'attitude, ' to influence the behaviour of others. But why should we argue about works of art? There are no 'actions' we wish to motivate. Whether I think Bach is greater than Beethoven and you think the opposite, why should it matter to either of us to convince the other? This is a question that philosophers have never faced. Kivy claims here that we argue over taste because we think, mistakenly or not, that we are arguing over matters of fact.
