Evangelical Christians in many countries shy away from politics. And yet, especially with the rise of the Pentecostal and charismatic movements, the interest and involvement in political activity is becoming a daily reality in evangelical circles. At the same time, evangelical politicians are not exempt from scandals of corruption and complaints of ineffectiveness. Are Christians unable to do better politics than others? Are they less prepared? Is even the whole political involvement of Christians under question? In this book, Dr Johannes Reimer explores the answers to these questions by articulating a theology of the church’s political mission. The church is not a political party, but as God’s ecclesia, it has a prophetic voice and is called out of the world to take responsibility for the world.

The minority question - what does a religious minority require to do in a democratic country in order to fulfill their duties as citizens of the country and also to attain public rights - is as old as the idea of democracy. Only the Muslim minority in India could give a rational, practical and informed answer to this question. There were innumerable researches conducted to identify and explain the material circumstances that facilitated them to come up with this answer, giving birth to arguments that are supportive and critical of the community. Most of these researches are available in the market in the form of books and biographies, even in Malayalam, though for the namesake. Now, what all might be the spiritual and intellectual factors that were at play in shaping this discovery? It is for sure that no political thinking would rise in the absence of it. This book springboards from an enquiry into this question. I was sure that I will find an answer if dug deep into the last three decades of Muslim League's history, or at least to 19th and 20th centuries. A generation that lived with history has more or less given way to the new carriers of the flame, completing their duty. Though not written or well-established, they had solid philosophical ideology with which they could draw a line between the political lines that they took and those behind them had taken. Since that knowledge has also faded into oblivion with them, this political ideology may cease to be a rootless bubble in the air. This book is an attempt to withstand that crisis. Therefor its main aim is to remind of the roots wherever its forgotten and inform with it the new generation. Along with that it aims to expose the unnecessary burden the community bears as a curse on its shoulder. This books also attempts to do a hairsplitting analysis of the accusations of social bifurcation, communalism, sectarianism etc. posed against the League by its enemies, unveiling the fluff in it to the public.

Just Mission written by Helen Cameron and has been published by SCM Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-05-31 with Religion categories.

The last decade has seen a resurgence of the social action of the local church – responses to social need have included street pastors, cold weather shelters, debt advice centres and latterly food banks. The last decade has also seen a greater experimentation in forms of evangelism, most prominently in the fresh expressions movement. The intention has been to bring the Church into contact with people who would not otherwise cross its threshold. All these changes have led to new pastoral relationships being formed and a greater awareness of how social change affects real people’s lives. Just Mission draws upon the increased activism of local churches and links it to effective use of democratic processes to achieve justice for the people with whom they have a pastoral relationship. It seeks to explain in a straight forward and theologically-based way, how they can undertake that task based upon the pastoral work that arises from their social action and evangelism. Helen Cameron introduces the political and public theology that is currently being produced to local church leaders so they can see that theology has a genuine interest in the dilemmas they currently face.

NATO and Terrorism posits that the post 9/11 war on terrorism has had a profound effect on NATO's post Cold War structure and military missions. NATO and Terrorism focuses on the decades from 1989 until 2009, during which NATO underwent two major transformations. The first was the expansion from sixteen to 26 member states. This section traces the evolution of the new member states from communist enemies to democratic partners, looking at their differences and similarities, the reactions of their publics to membership, and their involvement in NATO activities. The second was the radical shift in the missions of the alliance and the book analyzes the military operations in Bosnia, Kosovo, Afghanistan, and Iraq as well as the new issue of the Missile Shield for Europe. Both sections also look at how inclusion of more states is predicated on the conclusion that their geopolitical position makes them a barrier against terrorism centered further east and how the missions involve the struggle against several varieties of terrorism.
