Pendidikan Kewarganegaraan berasal dari Pendidikan Kewiraan, yang dikembangkan berdasarkan perkembangan dan kebutuhan. Istilah "kewiraan" sendiri berarti pendidikan kepatriotan atau kepahlawanan. Pengertian dari Pendidikan Kewarganegaraan adalah usaha sadar untuk menyiapkan mahasiswa dalam mengembangkan kecintaan, kesetiaan, keberanian untuk berkorban membela bangsa dan tanah airnya. Pendidikan Kewarganegaraan merupakan bagian dari kelompok Matakuliah Pengembangan Kepribadian (MPK), sebagai mata kuliah wajib pada perguruan tinggi yang bertujuan untuk membantu mahasiswa dalam pembentukan sikap mental dan jatidiri sebagai bangsa Indonesia. Oleh karena itu, Pendidikan Kewarganegaraan tidak hanya mengandung ranah kognitif tetapi sekaligus mencakup ranah afektif dan psikomotorik. Setelah memperoleh Pendidikan Kewarganegaraan, para mahasiswa diharapkan menguasai dan memahami berbagai masalah dasar dalam kehidupan bermasyarakat, berbangsa dan bernegara, serta dapat mengatasinya dengan pemikiran kritis dan bertanggungjawab. Pendidikan Kewarganegaraan bermaksud memperluas cakrawala berpikir para mahasiswa sebagai warganegara Indonesia sekaligus sebagai pejuang bangsa dalam usaha menciptakan serta meningkatkan kesejahteraan dan keamanan nasional untuk menjamin kelangsungan hidup bangsa dan negara demi terwujudnya aspirasi perjuangan nasional dengan tujuan untuk memupuk kesadaran bela negara dan berpikir komprehensif integral di kalangan mahasiswa dalam rangka ketahanan nasional.

Jakarta Geopolitical Forum V/ 2021 (JGF V/2021) organized by Lemhannas RI (National Resilience Institute of the Republic of Indonesia) on 21-22 October 2021. The forum is held annually and aimed to explore the implementation of critical thinking and the development of new ideas and strategic thingking which are the annual routine agenda of the Deputy for Strategic Studies of Lemhannas RI based on its main tasks and functions. Today's global civilization is evolving to determine its identity and is rapidly reaching a tipping point that will decide whether it will lead to a new or divided civilization. The vulnerability of mankind is a significant threat to the development of civilization in the future. An increasingly interconnected global civilization will emerge as a result of the interwoven culture of nations around the world and vice versa. The question that needs attention is whether Indonesia is able to adapt to the changes in existing civilizations or we can prevent various unexpected civilization possibilities in the future as well as the capabilily of Indonesia to bridge the gap between civilizations. Based on that, the theme of JGF V/ 2021 is "Culture and Civilization: Humanity at the Crossroads". The objectives to be achieved in organizing JGF V/2021 are to understand the form of future civilization, especially the socio-culture structure of the world's humans, to find out how far the culture and civilization of a nation is maintained in the midst of changes that occur, the mindset to adapt to the new civilization environment and knowing the extent of the correlation between the influence and change of civilization conveyed by world geopolitical experts from various countries.

Realpolitik Ideology presents path-breaking research on the Indonesian military (TNI) going beyond traditional scholarship on the TNI's dual function or dwifungsi which has been one of the dominating fields of analysis in Indonesian studies since the 1970s. Addressed to political scientists, sociologists, historians, anthropologists and defence practitioners, this book interprets security policy in terms of its social roots asserting that the realpolitik behaviour of the TNI has strong "socio-cultural" undertones, which in turn shape the development of military doctrine. The argument made in the book is that only through a better understanding of the doctrines that reinforced the military's significant presence in Indonesian affairs and their subsequent restructuring can Indonesia's policy-makers attempt meaningful reform of the TNI. Readable, accessible and yet exhaustively researched, Realpolitik Ideology examines the origins and development of ideas on security from the point of view of the TNI and explains why civil-military relations are still fraught with uncertainty, and why the recent changes in military ideology, removal of military posts in the legislature, ongoing divestment of its business, and other measures still do not guarantee that the military will not intervene in the affairs of state. Alverdian explores how a distinct national character of maritime governance has influenced the nature of Indonesia's aspiration to go beyond archipelagic towards a maritime nation, through focusing on the intersection between the nation's political culture, historical changes and geopolitical contexts, which gave rise to the primacy of the theme of unity in the nation's discourse. The main theme of this research is the three-pillar framework of the Tanah-Air concept, which includes the political culture of persatuan nasional (national unity), the strategic culture of cakra manggilingan (turning of the times from dark to golden periods), and the geopolitical context of posisi silang dunia (world crossroad position). The findings of this publication indicate the dominant influence of Javanese political culture, philosophy, values, and traditions on the distinct character of Indonesia’s maritime orientation. Specifically, Javanese political philosophy and traditions within each pillar of Tanah-Air have influenced continuity rather than change in the evolution of Indonesia’s maritime policy. This book helps readers understand how the defining theme of unity in national political culture has shaped the evolution of Indonesia’s maritime policy from 1945 to 2019. It illustrates how the continuous influence of the theme of national unity as devised by the political elites through history has addressed the realities of the archipelago’s geography, and it is significant from both an academic and practical policy perspective. A book designed for academics and the general public interested in gaining greater insight and knowledge on Indonesia’s maritime policy and maritime nation aspirations.
