In dieser systematischen Gesamtdarstellung der grammatikalischen Phänomene der portugiesischen Sprache wird aufgrund langjähriger Praxis der Versuch gemacht, den spezifischen Schwierigkeiten der deutschsprachigen Studierenden (Romanisten, Übersetzer, Dolmetscher und anderer Portuguesisch-Lernender) entgegenzukommen. Zur Illustrierung der jeweilig behandelten Gesetzmäßigkeiten ziehen die einzelnen Kapitel eine Fülle von Beispielen heran, so daß besonders auch Übersetzern und Dolmetschern für die Lösung von Einzelfällen zuverlässige Hilfen an die Hand gegeben werden. Den Besonderheiten der portugiesischen Sprache wird eingehend Rechnung getragen, der kontrastive Aspekt gegenüber dem Deutschen überall betont, wo es didaktische Gesichtspunkte ratsam erscheinen lassen. Die Beschreibung bzw. Erklärung mancher sprachlichen Erscheinungsformen wurde in der zweiten Auflage auf Grund der in jahrelangem Gebrauch der Grammatik gewonnenen Erfahrungen erweitert und vertieft. Auch wurden in einzelnen Fällen Erkenntnisse aus neueren Untersuchungen berücksichtigt und an entsprechender Stelle eingearbeitet. Übertriebenes Fachvokabular wurde vermieden, um die Darstellung auch einem größeren Leserkreis zugänglich zu machen. Zahlreiche Tabellen erleichtern die Übersicht über die behandelten Gebiete. Die kapitelweise angeordnete Randnumerierung sowie ein Wort- und Sachindex ermöglichen ein schnelles Nachschlagen zu Einzelfragen.
