A clay ball is placed on the wheel. The hole is made at the center. The wall is pinched between each finger. Here are some tips for throwing pottery. Your working movements, pressures, and speeds should be steady and consistent at all times Keep your hands in contact with each other and use them together as one tool As you work, keep your body still Don't be timid or scared, but firm and confident. If you are using hand building techniques, if the piece becomes larger or wider, let it dry before you start building. Otherwise, your pieces may collapse under the stress. To prevent them from drying out between work sessions, wrap and spray the works in progress with water. Clay joins work best when clay is either wet or dry, but not dried. Each piece must have the same consistency. For reinforcement, you can use soft clay to cover the joint. It is crucial to maintain the clay consistency while working. This is why it is important to catch it when it is perfect. This is easy to do wrong. Either you are too impatient or too eager and the clay collapses, or you leave it too long and the clay cracks. To stop your clay from drying out, keep it well wrapped. You can recycle the clay by collecting all dry bits and scrap clay together in a bucket. Cover it with water. The dried clay can be broken down into a slurry, which can then be dried on boards and kneaded into a usable consistency. Learn all your pottery techniques, style and patterns... Get Started now
