"A Practical Guide to Turfgrass Fungicides, Second Edition, is a current, comprehensive, and hands-on resource focused specifically on the fungicides used for disease control on turfgrass. Author Richard Latin developed this user-friendly guide based on his belief that if turf managers understand how and why fungicides work (and sometimes fail), they will use these products more effectively and efficiently and communicate disease control issues with greater confidence. Latin describes the book as "an off-season resource" that can be used to reflect on past seasons and plan for the season ahead. Since publication of the first edition of A Practical Guide to Turfgrass Fungicides in 2011, much has been learned about how fungicides work and how best to use them. Turf pathologists have explored interactions between fungicides and a variety of management, environmental, and genetic factors to optimize the use of these chemical tools. Investigative researchers have studied where fungicides reside in the turf profile and how long they will be effective, and basic research on fungicide resistance has helped explain how fungicide-resistant strains arise and how long they can remain predominant. In addition, new products have changed the day-to-day practice of turf disease management, including new succinate dehydrogenase inhibitor (SDHI) and demethylase inhibitor (DMI) fungicides and compounds that stimulate plants to manufacture their own antifungal defenses. These findings and innovations have informed the second edition of A Practical Guide to Turfgrass Fungicides. Providing expanded coverage, this new book is 30% longer than the previous edition and includes 80 more illustrations, profiles of 11 new compounds, and up-to-date discussions of 27 turf diseases. Written for professionals in both industry and academia, this comprehensive revision addresses all the factors that contribute to the effective and efficient use of fungicides on turf. Turf managers, in particular, can rely on this book to make informed decisions and to effectively discuss control issues with administrators and the golfing public."--Publisher's website.

This book comprised of three sections that focus various aspects of fungicide usages and its consequences. In the eight-chapter first section, authors discuss implementation of Integrated Plant Disease Management on a wide array of crops grown in different parts of the world: wheat productions in Argentina and in the US; corn, cotton and Eucalyptus productions in Brazil; rice productions in India; peanut productions in the southern US; and pine seedling nurseries in Serbia. The second section is composed of two chapters that explore the possibility of natural products as fungicides. The final section discusses two interesting and important topics on the fungicide-fungus interaction that can influence the implementation of plant disease management practices, fungicide resistance and hormesis.

Sustainability is a key framework for analyzing biological systems—and turfgrass is no exception. It is part of a complex that encompasses turfgrass interactions with different environments and the suitability of different turfgrasses for specific environments. In addition to its biological role, turfgrass—in the form of lawns, green spaces, and playing surfaces—brings beneficial sociological effects to an increasingly urbanized society. This book presents a comprehensive overview of current knowledge and issues in the field of turfgrass research and management, including the genetics and breeding, the diseases and pests, and the ecology of turfgrasses, and will appeal to a broad spectrum of readers.

Cultivated turfgrass is an assemblage of mown, perennial grasses or prostrate-growing forb plants and a suite of microbes all competing with each other in a common environment. This book approaches turfgrass diseases from an ecological perspective and explains with examples how wild plants and microbes have co-evolved. It addresses the identification, biology and integrated management of both common turfgrass diseases and newly emergent diseases. It includes the common and lesser-known turfgrass species, their surrounding environment and the range of beneficial and pathogenic microbes which in combination explain why disease occurs. For disease identification purposes, fungal diseases are arranged according to their predominantly cool season and warm season occurrence. Turfgrass bacterial and viral diseases, and plant parasitic nematodes are also covered. Written by a team of international authors, it combines technical expertise and practical experience. Essential for anyone involved in managing turfgrass, this book provides the know-how to identify the early warning signs of diseases, in order to manipulate the environment and minimise the damage.

Creeping bentgrass is considered the premier turfgrass species grown on golf courses, and there is a growing demand for an understanding of its maintenance and management practices. Still the only comprehensive reference on the subject, Creeping Bentgrass Management, Second Edition helps you identify the factors that contribute to summer bentgrass decline and guides you in selecting the best approaches for stress and pest management. This full-color book delves into all aspects of modern approaches to creeping bentgrass management on golf courses. It describes the nature of mechanical, physiological, and environmental stresses and how they influence growth and management of creeping bentgrass. The book covers the selection of creeping bentgrass cultivars; cultural practices, including mowing, irrigation, and topdressing; the deleterious effects of organic and inorganic layers in golf greens; and ways to limit injury due to mechanical or physical stresses. It also discusses recent advances in the management of selected diseases and soil-related maladies of creeping bentgrass—from Pythium-incited root dysfunction to dollar spot, yellow tuft, and blue-green algae. The focus is on common disease symptoms, predisposing conditions, hosts, and cultural and chemical management strategies. Advances in biological disease control are also reviewed. The book offers practical guidance in selecting and using fungicides, herbicides, and plant growth regulators. Systems Biology And Antimicrobial Drug Resistance written by Vijay Soni and has been published by Frontiers Media SA this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-09-18 with Science categories.

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) poses a significant threat to global public health. With the emergence of new resistant strains and limited antibiotic treatment options, it has become increasingly difficult to treat infections effectively. This is particularly concerning for bacterial infections like Mycobacterium tuberculosis, Acinetobacter spp., Staphylococcus aureus, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa, where only a limited number of antibiotics are available for treatment. According to the US National Strategy for Combating Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria, approximately 2 million Americans are infected with antibiotic-resistant bacteria each year, and at least 23,000 die as a result. The situation is even worse in developing countries. Systems biology, which aims to understand the complex interactions between the different components of a biological system, has emerged as a powerful tool for studying AMR. By integrating data from multiple sources, including genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics, systems biology can provide a comprehensive view of the mechanisms underlying AMR. This approach can lead to the identification of novel targets for drug development and the development of personalized treatment strategies that consider the specific characteristics of individual patients and the pathogens that infect them. This Research Topic aims to explore the potential of systems biology in combating antibiotic resistance, and highlight the need for further research to fully realize its clinical potential in infectious diseases.
