Excerpt from Practical Psycho -Analysis: An Introductory Handbook This elementary work is published in the hope that it may be of some use to doctors and medical students who wish to learn something of psycho-analysis and who yet have not the time to read the larger works on the subject. Having myself had experience of the difficulties in the way of acquiring a moderate working knowledge of the science I have aimed at simplicity in presenting the subject-matter and, with this object in view, have adopted the plan of giving concrete clinical examples as far as possible instead of relying on abstract reasoning about principles. Some explanation of simple mental processes, and of what may be called the mechanism of production of the neuroses - the changes in the movements of mental processes resulting in the production of a neurosis, and of the manner in which these changes are brought about - is necessary. Such explanation will be much more easily understood by the reader after he becomes acquainted with details of the cases recorded in the text. The small amount of theory thrown in will, it is hoped, further help to clear up difficulties. The material used for the clinical examples given is taken almost exclusively from patients suffering from war neuroses, and very excellent material it is for purposes of illustration. The Technique And Practice Of Psychoanalysis written by Ralph R. Greenson and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-05-08 with Psychology categories.

This systematic and comprehensive volume, written in a lively and clear style, is devoted essentially to the fundamentals of psychoanalytic technique: transference and resistance. The author approaches psychoanalytic technique from a classical theoretical framework, but he frequently gives an entirely fresh view of traditionally accepted procedures. His most important new contribution consists in the clear distinction between the patient's 'real relationship' to the analyst, the 'working alliance', and the transference relationship. His discussion of the contradictory and often conflicting demands which each of these elements makes on the technical skills of the analyst is particularly illuminating. In many fascinating case illustrations, he shows how the analyst carries out therapeutic psychoanalysis while respecting the diversity of psychic constellations in different patients and at different points in their analyses. This book can be recommended - without qualification - to the beginning student because of the thorough clarification and documentation of the basic principles of psychoanalytic technique.

A Practical Psychoanalytic Guide To Reflexive Research written by Joshua Holmes and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-08-06 with Psychology categories.

A Practical Psychoanalytic Guide to Reflexive Research offers an accessible guide to enriched qualitative research. In this novel approach, the researcher’s feelings and empathy in relation to participants take centre stage, leading to fresh, exciting and usable research findings. The psychoanalytic concept of reverie refers to those startling and unexpected images, feelings and daydreams which can come to mind as we interact with other people in the world. Qualitative research involves interacting with human subjects, and the book shows how uncanny or troubling reverie experiences can be turned to good use by being linked back to deeper research questions and hypotheses. Joshua Holmes critically explores the role of self-reflection (reflexivity) in psychoanalysis and qualitative research. Practical guidance is offered while planning research; conducting research interviews; analysing interview data; teaching methods which foster the capacity for reverie; and in relation to research groups. Examples are given throughout, including the author’s own missteps along the way, in which he shares the importance of learning from experience. The book breathes life into research processes offering much-needed clinical relevance. The method moves away from one-size-fits all, formulaic research procedures and brings tenor, colour and texture into the research process, to create vivid, real-life meaningful findings. A Practical Psychoanalytic Guide to Reflexive Research will be essential reading for undergraduate and postgraduate qualitative researchers wishing to enhance their reflexive practice, while psychotherapists and psychoanalysts will find a genuinely psychoanalytic research method, where their clinical skills become vital capacities rather than an awkward hindrance.

Excerpt from The Elements of Practical Psychoanalysis: With a Supplementary Chapter on Principles of Thinking The object of this work is to give an account of the theory, technique, and scope of psychoanalysis, in such a form that its essentials may readily be understood by the student or practitioner without previous systematic reading in psychology and psychotherapy. At present should anyone wish to study the subject, even if only to grasp its general import, it is necessary for him to read not one, but several, large volumes on the matter, each of which will give him some information, but each of which presupposes that the reader has already mastered essential details in the course of previous reading. Added to this the terminology in use is of a highly technical nature, and to the beginner who has to refer continuously to a dictionary (which often does not contain the word required) this is very disconcerting, and frequently the reader is left with vague and mistaken notions. Practical Psychoanalysis For Therapists And Patients written by Owen Renik and has been published by Other Press, LLC this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-09-07 with Psychology categories.

A clear and readable how-to manual for results-oriented psychoanalysis. By now, the term "practical psychoanalysis" has become an oxymoron. The way psychoanalytic treatment is generally conducted is extremely impractical and doesn't serve the needs of the vast majority of potential patients, who want to achieve maximum relief from emotional distress as quickly as possible. This unfortunate state of affairs is ironic, considering that psychoanalysis became popular on the basis of its therapeutic efficacy. In this essential new book, Owen Renik describes how clinical psychoanalysis can focus on symptom relief and deliver results efficiently. With a humane, direct, and engaging voice, he takes up how to begin treatment, how to end it, and how to deal with the in-between. He offers chapters on the therapy of panic attacks and depersonalization, on how to get out of an impasse, on the relation between sexual desire and power in the analytic relationship, on patients who seem to want to sabotage their treatments, on flying blind as an analyst, and on a number of other intriguing, important practical topics. Renik's down-to-earth presentation and discussion of clinical anecdotes, combined with useful recommendations for both analyst and patient, amounts to a clear and readable how-to manual. The book is intended for all mental health caregivers, patients and potential patients, and for anyone who is curious about what makes for effective, helpful psychotherapy.
