Tourism gentrification is a critical shaping force of socio-economic and contemporary urban landscapes. This book aims to be the first substantive text on this subject, explaining the multiple and complex relationships between tourism and gentrification and their outcomes and manifestations in contemporary metropolises. This is achieved by drawing on in-depth case analyses addressing the different issues at stake. Part I deals with the manifestations of tourism gentrification and the ways it affects urban landscapes through heritagization and urban regeneration strategies. Part II looks at the correlations between tourism gentrification and culture. Finally, the last two parts aim to identify and examine forms and expressions of tourism gentrification, distinguishing among the actors, beneficiaries, and victims of the phenomenon while looking at its implications for intra-metropolitan territories and metropolitan governance. This book explores the critical role of urban food production in strengthening communities and in building ecosocialism. It integrates theory and practice, drawing on several local case studies from seven countries across four continents: China, Cuba, Ghana, Italy, Tanzania, the UK, and the US. Research shows that the term "urban agriculture" overstates the limited food-growing potential in cities due to a shortage of land required for growing grains, the basic human food staple. For this reason, the book suggests "urban cultivation" as an appropriate term which indicates social and political progress achieved through combined labours of urbanites to produce food. It examines how these collaborative food-growing efforts help raise local social capital, foster community organisation, and create ecological awareness in order to promote urban food production while also ensuring environmental sustainability. This book illustrates how urban cultivation constitutes a potentially important aspect of urban ecosystems, as well as offers solutions to current environmental problems. It recentres attention to the global South and debunks Eurocentric narratives, challenging capitalist commercial food-growing regimes and encouraging ecosocialist food-growing practices. UN RICORDO SU MARCELLO FABBRI Dall'introduzione al volume di Antonio Quistelli Marcello Fabbri fu uno degli "outsider" che io volli in squadra con me alla facoltà di Architettura di Reggio Calabria quando ne ero il Direttore. Un nostro primo incontro c'era stato per un progetto del quale mi ero occupato al tempo del terremoto del Belice. Un uomo acuto, un'intelligenza pronta e una cultura profonda non poteva non riconoscere in lui uno di quei maestri che la fortuna mi ha fatto più volte incontrare. Erano tempi in cui la mia carica di Rettore mi dava grandi poteri e l'uso di risorse economiche che mi consentivano tutta una serie di interventi che non fossero solo diretti alla promozione della Scuola che dirigevo, ma anche alla promozione della vita culturale della città che ci ospitava. Fu così che prese vita quel Controspazio che lui suggerì di acquisire passando dalle mani di Portoghesi alle nostre. Marcello era un ispiratore instancabile di tutto ciò che poteva far crescere noi e insieme la nostra città. Era sempre il partigiano, il combattente per la libertà, che continuava la sua battaglia e, questa volta, in un disegno complessivo di avanzamento di idee e di principi. C'era tra noi quella differenza di età che aveva chiamato lui a prendere le armi e me a capire facendo scelte alle quali sono stato costantemente fedele. Lo ammiravo e ne condividevo posizioni e intenti. Non è la prima volta che mi trovo a scrivere per ricordarne la memoria. Mi accadde, a caldo, all'atto della sua scomparsa e sento come in dovere prendere la penna ora, questa volta, per un tributo che quanti lo hanno conosciuto e lavorato con lui sentono di dover dare.
