[Practice, Problems and Prospects of Ecumenical Processes. A Contribution to Theory Building] Why is ecumenism in need of a theory? The monograph investigates this topical question by seizing on the barely received thesis of the ecumenicist Peter Lengsfeld: Ecumenical processes are determined by an interaction of non-theological and theological factors. Central categories within his theory are truth, social structure and identity of the churches which have a mutual influence on each other in ecumenism. The monograph contributes to the construction of an ecumenical theory by critically reflecting on Lengsfeld's approach. For this purpose the author analyses histories of denominational separations and the practice of ecumenical processes, identifies problems in ecumenism and in theory building and develops prospects for their understanding and possibilities for action.

This book examines how the practice of episcopacy in the Church of England and the EKD affects the claim that the 'historic episcopate' is a necessary condition for 'the full interchangeability of ministers'. It addresses four questions relating to the practice of oversight: How have different forms of oversight sought to maintain the apostolic 'historic' faith in history and today? How does the exercise of authority within contemporary societies relate to the pre-modern ideas expressed in the idea of historic episcopate? How has the practice of oversight changed in the light of demographic changes and declining levels of church membership? What are the implications of synodical government and shared oversight for the concept of 'historic episcopate'? The book's goal is to explore whether an interdisciplinary analysis of episcopacy can assist the churches in establishing a new understanding of the "historic episcopate". Die östlichen Kirchen haben wie die römisch-katholische Kirche im Westen markante Identitäten entwickelt. Das II. This volume reflects on the values behind the ILO's Decent Work Agenda and provides a forum for contributors from various humanistic, philosophical, spiritual and religious traditions to express their views on the significance of work at all levels of society, from the individual person to the global community. Common, universal values are explored, as well as differences, in order to shed more light on the concept of decent work. In all societies, there is an ethical dimension to work, connected to the rights and entitlements of those who perform it. This also includes spiritual value such as dignity, personal identity, a sense of purpose in life, the "divine call to work" and so on. In this book, contributors - from the Jewish, Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, Confucian, and various secular traditions - come together to exchange comments and reflections on the "floor" of decency as defined by the ILO: freedom of association, eradication of forced and compulsory labour, abolition of child labour and elimination of discrimination in respect of employment and occupation.
